A step above some of the grim hostels in the neighborhood, Pandora After 80s offers bright hostel digs in the bustling Causeway Bay area, a short walk from shopping, dining, and the MTR station. The five units include both private rooms and dorm rooms with shared bathrooms. Each room is air-conditioned and private rooms have a flat-screen TV and en-suite bathroom. Wi-Fi is free throughout the hostel, and there's an eclectic common room, outdoor terrace, kitchenette, and lockers. The Pandora is comparable in price to the nearby Hong Kong Hostel, but a good deal nicer. Rooms at the Pandora are generally in better condition, but the Hong Kong Hostel does have a communal kitchen that's helpful for saving money on meals.

Pandora After 80s is housed in a largely residential building, with just a small sign marking its location, so it's occasionally hard for guests to find. Inside, though, it's a nice step up from the grim alternatives in the area. The common room has a bohemian global-traveler look, with colorful throw pillows, bean bag chairs, and wall art representing different countries and cities from around the world. The reception desk is covered in colorful stickers. The ambiance is social and guests mingle in the common area to use the free Wi-Fi, or get some fresh air on the attractive outdoor terrace with tables, chairs, and wicker benches. The Pandora draws young budget travelers, who appreciate the low room rates, pleasant style, convivial atmosphere, and Causeway Bay location near shopping, dining, and the MTR station.

Pandora After 80s is in the Causeway Bay area of Hong Kong, which is known throughout the city as one of the best areas to shop. It sits on busy Gloucester Road, and the Victoria Harbour waterfront is nearby. A bus stop is next door to the hostel and the Causeway Bay MTR station is a five-minute walk from the front door. Hysan Place and Lee Gardens malls are a little over five minutes away on foot as well, and Times Square mall is about a 10-minute walk from the hostel. Numerous 24-hour supermarkets and restaurants are in the neighborhood, and nightlife on Lockhart Road can be reached in about 10 minutes on foot. The western edge of Victoria Park is a five-minute walk, for those needing a dash of greenery, while the area with Wan Chai Ferry Pier and Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre is a five-minute drive (or 15-minute walk). It's about a 10-minute taxi ride from the hostel or 10-minute trip by ferry from Wan Chai Pier to Tsim Sha Tsui, with attractions like the Avenue of Stars, the Hong Kong Cultural Centre, Kowloon Park, and the Hong Kong Science Museum. Expect a 35-minute drive to Hong Kong International Airport.

Pandora After 80s has private rooms and shared dormitories with bunk beds and individual reading lights. The look is simple, but modern, with white walls, a blend of quirky graphic art and old-school landscape posters, and dark wood-veneer floors. In some of the private rooms, there's a Scandinavian-style chair, but otherwise furniture is limited to beds. Most get decent natural light, but some lack windows. Some rooms have balconies and/or harbor views and all have air-conditioning. Private rooms have flat-screen TVs with a limited range of English and satellite channels. Most bathrooms are small, with little counter space around the sinks -- they are wet rooms, meaning there's no separate shower stall and the entire bathroom will get wet during a shower. Dorm rooms share a bathroom. Hairdryers and irons are available on request. We did spot some scuff marks on the walls in the rooms that we visited.
