Bottom Line

The large 1,200-room Hilton Americas - Houston is a swanky, upper-middle-range hotel in the city’s convention district. With an on-site fitness center, spa, and pool, there are plenty of ways to exercise and relax at the hotel. The 91,500 square feet of meeting space and the property’s proximity to outside convention centers make the Hilton highly convenient for business travelers. Sizable rooms are clean and modernly designed. The hotel’s height gives many rooms and common spaces a generous view of the city.

Hilton Americas – Houston

Scene

Bustling, incandescent common areas with elegant accents

The lobby of Hilton Americas - Houston is modern and elegant, with a mosaic tile floor and fiery chandeliers made of Venetian glass. The warm light from the chandeliers and surrounding fluorescents give the space a golden quality; in certain places, the marble columns appear to glow. The lobby is large and open, a mix of dark wood, brown marble, and sunset paintings of the sky -- much of it made by Texan artists.

There’s an air of bustling professionalism to Hilton Americas - Houston, keeping in mind that much of its clientele is in town for business and/or conventions. There’s a lobby bar and an open lounge that’s spacious enough to accommodate a big crowd. One of the most beautiful aspects of the Hilton is its outdoor terrace, 23 floors up and next to the hotel’s indoor pool. From the terrace, guests can take in a beautiful city view. Unfortunately, there’s no food or beverage service up there, so people tend to congregate in the lobby instead.

Location

Centrally located, near shops, restaurants, and attractions, while attached to George R. Brown Convention Center

Hilton Americas - Houston is conveniently located in the city center. Connected to George R. Brown Convention Center by sky bridges, the hotel is also across the street from Discovery Green Park and, by foot, is about 10-15 minutes away from BBVA Compass Stadium, Minute Maid Park, and the GreenStreet shopping and entertainment center. A host of other attractions and eating options are in the immediate vicinity as well. The airport is a little less than a half-hour drive north.

Rooms

Sizeable and simple; modern without being cold

The rooms at the Hilton are simply designed and adequately sized, with space for a king-sized bed or two queens, a reading chair, and a workspace. The design is on the blander side -- think yellow walls, beige chairs, and wood furnishings -- but orange glasswork on the bedside lamps adds spice. Rooms come with a flat-screen TV, mini-fridge, and coffeemaker. Unfortunately, in-room Wi-Fi comes with an extra price. (It’s free in the lobby.) Bathrooms are spacious and bright, with Peter Thomas Roth soaps and bath products. Shower/tub combinations are covered with a fabric curtain and long vanities hold a single sink. Rooms on higher floors have the best views of Houston.

Features

A spa, a lap pool, a beautiful view, and several food options

Hilton Americas - Houston is a well-designed property with a full-service spa and health club; the latter has a heated indoor lap pool. If you’re looking to take it easy, stick to the large hot tub adjacent to the pool. Outside is a beautiful terrace where guests can relax and surrender to a lovely city view.

There are a few food and drink options within the hotel itself, including 24-hour room service. In addition to The Lobby Bar, there’s the daytime coffee shop Java Jive@1600, the Tex-Mex oriented Pappasito’s Cantina, and The Café, which serves American cuisine. The Hilton also has more than 90,000 square feet of meeting and ballroom space for events and conferences, plus a 24-hour business center.
