SpringHill Suites Houston Downtown/Convention Center

Opened in 2015, the SpringHill Suites is housed in a 14-floor building connected to sister Marriott properties Courtyard Houston Downtown/Convention Center and Residence Houston Downtown/Convention Center. The atmosphere here is busy, consistent with the hotel’s downtown location, and public spaces have an energetic, visually striking look, with avant-garde art and lighting fixtures. The lobby features leather chairs and sofas that have a hint of midcentury design, while the breakfast room is decked out with curved sofas and rich colors of ruby red and emerald green. Numerous business travelers come here, as the suites lend themselves to extended stays, and the property is a short walk from the convention center. The hotel also draws families with kids and travelers here for sporting events at nearby venues.

The SpringHill Suites is in the heart of downtown Houston in an area filled with shops, restaurants, and bars. The Dallas St & Main St bus stop is right outside the hotel, and the Main Street Square METRORail light rail station is a one-minute walk. The George R. Brown Convention center is about five minutes by bus or taxi, or a 12-minute walk. It takes about the same time to drive to the Theater District, Hobby Center for the Performing Arts, and Downtown Aquarium.

Major sports venues are also close by. It's a five-minute drive or 12 minutes by bus to The Toyota Center (Houston Rockets), Minute Maid Park (Houston Astros), and BBVA Compass Stadium (Houston Dynamo and Houston Dash). NRG Stadium is outside the city, and roughly a 15-minute drive. Reaching George Bush Intercontinental Airport by taxi takes 25 minutes, and it's about a 20-minute drive to William P. Hobby Airport. Both airports are reachable within an hour by public transit.

All guest rooms at the SpringHill are spacious studio suites. The aesthetic is modern and chic, with light-wood furniture and trim and good use of color. Orange headboards are set against powder blue walls, and carpeting has a green-and-gold graphic print. All have living areas with slate-blue sofa beds separated from bedrooms by privacy walls. Standard amenities are excellent. Expect plush beds with thick mattresses, flat-screen TVs with HBO (some suites have two TVs), microwaves, mini-fridges, single-serve coffeemakers, and free Wi-Fi. Bathrooms are spacious and have a stylish, contemporary look, with square basin sinks and stainless steel fixtures. Most have walk-in showers, and some have shower/tub combos. All contain hairdryers, Paul Mitchell products, and showers, and a few have shower/tub combos. Views from units are of the surrounding cityscape.

The hotel has a decent set of on-site features for a comfortable stay. The SpringHill serves a well-regarded free breakfast buffet featuring make-your-own waffles, scrambled eggs, turkey sausage, and a wide range of cold fare. There's no full-service restaurant on-site, but the neighboring sister hotel Courtyard Houston has a breakfast and dinner bistro and evening cocktail lounge.

There is a 24-hour fitness center on-site, though while it's bright, equipment is limited. Other on-site amenities include two meeting rooms, two lobby computers and a printer, coin-op laundry, lobby convenience store, 24-hour front desk, and free Wi-Fi throughout. Valet parking is available for an extra charge.
