Bottom Line

Next to a couple of beaches and a short walk to famous nightlife spots such as Cafe del Mar and Mambos, the budget-friendly Poniente Playa is strategically situated for those looking to experience Ibiza’s world-renowned party scene and beaches on the cheap. The hotel’s 56 one- and two-bedroom apartments are all clean and spacious, with fully equipped kitchens, sofa beds, and furnished balconies. There aren’t many on-site amenities, but the hotel does have a decent bar serving cheap, filling food, and a medium-sized pool across the street. It’s a young party hotel and it can get loud, but with ultra-low rates and freebies such as Wi-Fi and parking, it offers great value for money.

Apartamentos Poniente Playa

Scene

A party hotel with low rates and comfortable apartments

Terrazzo floors and a couple of older-looking chairs are the only dated elements in the lobby, which features cheerful mustard-colored walls, wooden ceiling fans, wicker seating areas, and a small front desk tucked away next to the stairs. Hallways have stripes in bold colors, and public bathrooms have fun white, red, and orange mosaic tiles. The hotel draws a young crowd and many bachelor and bachelorette parties, so guests shouldn't expect peaceful nights during peak season.

Location

A short walk from the beach and nightlife

Apartamentos Poniente Playa is located on the corner of two wide one-way residential streets in western Sant Antoni de Portmany. Calo des Moro -- a beach known for its sunsets -- is just around the corner, and there are a couple of other beaches a 10-minute walk away. The West End (or Sunset Strip), a street lined with famous lounge bars and clubs such as Cafe del Mar and Mambos, can be easily reached in a 10-minute walk. Here, some of the world’s top DJs perform every night and at sunset, making this narrow seafront strip Sant Antoni’s main draw. The town’s renowned nightlife area is also within easy walking distance, but far enough away to make the neighborhood quiet compared to more central locations.

Rooms

Bright, spacious one- and two-bedroom apartments with kitchenettes

Partially renovated in late 2014, Apartamentos Poniente Playa offers a mix of refurbished and older one- and two-bedroom apartments, all equipped with kitchens, air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, and safes. Newer apartments are colorful and contemporary, but non-renovated units have basic furniture and dated decor. All of the units are clean and big, with living areas with sofa beds and fully stocked kitchenettes. Superior Rooms have been refurbished and feature bright contemporary decor in bold colors. Standard Rooms, however, have muted color palettes and are bland and dated, with basic wooden furniture and thin bedspreads. Kitchens in all apartments are equipped with burners, microwaves, sinks, mini-fridges, and all the utensils necessary to cook a full meal. All rooms have balconies furnished with plastic chairs and tables, and Penthouses feature large terraces with sea views.
