La Torre del Canonigo

La Torre del Canonigo is a small, boutique hotel located along a rustic, cobblestone alley within the walls of Ibiza's medieval city. The hotel itself is situated inside a 14th-century, four-story stone tower, with the pool and restaurant located down a cobbled alley. The interiors manage to balance luxury and rustic charm with terra-cotta floors, white stucco walls, exposed stone accents, and wood-beam ceilings. Vintage and traditional dark wood furniture are paired with hanging chandelier lights, and the lobby offers plenty of spaces for guests to lounge. The long outdoor pool area is surrounded by a stone terrace with lounge chairs and olive trees (it transforms into the hotel's restaurant at night) and offers exceptional views from one of the highest points in Dalt Vila. The hotel is popular amongst leisure travelers and couples, but because it only has eight rooms, it can book up fast during the busy seasons. Travelers with mobility issues may want to reconsider, though, as the property does not have an elevator and car access can be limited in the Old Town. 

Perched on Dalt Vila (part of Ibiza's Old Town), Torre del Canonigo's location has its pros and cons. The entrance is so discrete, it can be difficult to find -- though the secrecy has its charm. The medieval city's tiny streets aren't easy to navigate, but there are plenty of restaurants and shops within reach, many just a three- to five-minute walk from the hotel. The Cathedral de Santa Maria is a one-minute walk away, and the Museum of Contemporary Art can be reached in seven minutes on foot. Car access is tricky, though the hotel has limited free parking nearby. Transport service is available to some of the area's beaches (for a fee). The hotel can also arrange airport pick-ups and drop-offs, which many guests recommend, as some taxis are unwilling to drive up the hill directly to the hotel. 

The hotel's eight classy yet rustic Mediterranean-style rooms feature white stucco walls, terra-cotta tiled floors, dark-wood furniture, and white fabrics, including four-poster beds with canopies of white netting. Rooms vary in size and style from the entry-level Double Basic, which measures about 200 square feet, to the 430-square-foot Suite with Terrace, which has extra features like a whirlpool and outdoor sitting area. Sophisticated modern bathrooms in gray feature marble vanities, toilets and bidets, and standing showers or shower/tub combos. 

Rooms are air-conditioned and include a range of modern amenities like Smart TVs with satellite channels, Bose sound systems, minibars stocked with free drinks, electronic safes, and free Wi-Fi, though there are no coffee/tea making facilities. Bathrooms are also equipped with bathrobes and slippers, hairdryers, and free toiletries. 

For such a small hotel, this upscale spot offers a nice range of features geared toward leisure travelers. The hotel offers tasty a la carte breakfasts, served into the early afternoon. A variety of omelets, homemade bread, fresh-squeezed OJ, and coffee are available in a charming room with a wood-beam ceiling, but some guests are disappointed that breakfast isn't included in the room rate. The hotel also has a bar and a restaurant, Kyūpiddo, which serves Japanese-fusion meals for dinner. The hotel's pool and restaurant are situated down a cobbled alley (guests recommend good walking shoes), and the pool closes early to accommodate the dinner crowd. The pool is surrounded by a rock terrace and loungers, and overlooks the port. The hotel offers a charming and rustic lobby lounge in addition to roof terrace seating. A computer and printer are available in the lobby for guest use and Wi-Fi throughout is free. The hotel offers limited parking, transport service to the beach or airport (extra fee), and a 24-hour front desk and room service. Massages, laundry and dry cleaning, and medical service can be arranged.
