Bottom Line

The 26-room Lohagarh Fort Resort is a one-of-a-kind upscale property tucked away amid eight acres of lush, beautiful grounds. It’s a great pick for families and couples wanting a relaxing break from the city, with some evening entertainment, a big lagoon-style pool, and tons of outdoor activities available free of charge. Room quality varies widely between categories and range from low-frills tent units with jetted tubs to sumptuous villas with private gardens and pools. Each unit has been individually decorated and features rather whimsical decor, with natural materials such as logs and stone slabs, and decent amenities. Food is good and varied, and pets are allowed on-site. The resort is a 45-minute drive from Jaipur, so travelers wanting to stay closer to the Pink City attractions may want to consider the Trident, Jaipur.

Lohagarh Fort Resort

Scene

Upscale resort with lush, beautiful grounds and a family-friendly vibe

Located off the road that connects Delhi and Jaipur, the Lohagarh Fort Resort feels a world away from either of those two bustling cities. A paved driveway lined with gardens leads to an imposing fort-like gate made of stone and carved wood that opens onto what feels like the deep jungle: narrow paths are covered by a canopy of trees, and there are lush gardens everywhere. Common spaces and rooms are housed in small buildings tucked amid the greenery, and wood and stone are the primary building materials used throughout, lending the property a jungle hideout vibe. Most guests here are local families looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city, and there is plenty to do on-site both for adults and for kids. The atmosphere is quiet and peaceful -- that is, until the DJ sessions begin. Thankfully, that only happens a few times per month, and the rest of the entertainment, which includes live music and magic and dance performances, end early, allowing for serene nights.

Though the property bills itself as a top luxury resort, it's less decadent than that, especially for travelers that book a tent. The hotel is unique in that it doesn’t offer standard rooms but cottages, tents, and villas, all surrounded by thick greenery -- but it’s missing most of the high-end services and amenities expected of a high-end property. For something truly luxe, consider the Rambagh Palace, whose entry-level room is cheaper than the villas at Lohagarh Fort. The Radisson Blu Jaipur lacks the lush ground and unique atmosphere of the Lohagarh Fort, but offers a more conventional upscale experience closer to attractions, complete with a rooftop infinity pool, solid dining options, and plush rooms.

Location

In a secluded area outside of Kookas, and a 45-minute drive from central Jaipur

The hotel is located in a quiet area off the highway that connects Delhi and Jaipur. There is nothing of general interest in the surrounding vicinity, with just a small village housing a few restaurants and local shops a 10-minute drive away. Though this location is convenient for those wanting to get away from it all, it is less ideal for travelers wanting to be within easy access of Jaipur’s attractions, most of which are about a 45-minute drive away. The nearest major attraction is Amber Fort, found about a 25-minute drive away, but all other area sights are at least a half-hour away, including Jal Mahal, Hawa Mahal, and Jaigarh Fort. The drive to Jaipur International Airport takes about an hour.

Rooms

Tents, cottages, suites, and villas offering varying degrees of comfort

The hotel has a total of 26 rooms divided into four main categories: tents, cottages, suites, and villas. Each has been individually decorated using natural materials such as big logs of wood, huge slabs of rock, pebbles, and tree stumps, lending most rooms a touch of rustic charm. Some have whimsical touches such as accent walls covered in feathers and platform beds made with thick cuts of white quartz, while higher-category units feature decadent touches such as carved-wood beds painted gold, crystal chandeliers, and polished marble floors. This allows for varying degrees of comfort and luxury, but only villas and suites are truly upscale.

Low-fills tents are the entry-level units at Lohagarh Fort, some of which are showing a bit of wear. These cute canvas structures have outdoor spaces, big windows offering jungle views, and spacious bathrooms with jetted tubs. The rest of the room types are a bit plusher in terms of decor, but amenities are minimal for the price. They include mini-fridges with a couple of bottles of water, electric kettles, flat-screen TVs, hairdryers, and air-conditioning. Villas and some cottages have private gardens with small plunge pools. Bathrooms are big and light, with huge windows offering garden views, stone sinks, and jetted tubs in most. Some have separate showers as well. Robes and slippers are provided.

There is no Wi-Fi in rooms.

Features

Lovely pool, small spa, solid restaurant, and evening entertainment

The highlight at this resort are the grounds. They’re lush and beautiful and feature hammocks tied between trees, quiet nooks with seating, and expansive lawns with games, toys, and bikes that guests can use free of charge. Mini-golf, pool tables, table tennis, and volleyball are all available on-site. The pool is particularly attractive, with a lagoon-style design surrounded by greenery and shaded areas. The spa is small but cute, and offers Rajasthani and Thai massages and body treatments. There are some free weights in an open pavilion, but the hotel lacks a proper gym. Tasty and varied local cuisine is served at the restaurant, which is housed in a rustic yet attractive building, complete with a lounge area.

The hotel offers an evening entertainment program that includes dance and music performances and family-friendly magic shows. DJ sessions are available a few times per month, which has drawn some complaints from guests, as they can go on until late into the night.

Wi-Fi is only available in common areas, and cellphone service is limited.
