Bottom Line

Lui Beach Resort is a two-and-a-half-pearl hotel that primarily attracts package tourists, many of whom are from Russia. Both air-conditioned and non-air-conditioned rooms are available, and all units have balconies or sit-out areas, along with flat-screen TVs and simple bathrooms. The hotel doesn't offer much in terms of amenities. There is a mid-sized pool with a wading area that's good for kids, plus a poolside bar and restaurant with all sorts of culinary offerings, including freshly caught seafood. Breakfast is included in room rates and served cooked-to-order, with a few Indian and international options to chose from. Travelers shopping around may also want to check out rates and amenities at the similarly priced Aldeia Santa Rita just around the corner, which offers one-bedroom suite-style rooms.

Scene

Family-owned budget hotel with courtyard pool and airy lobby; popular with Russian package tourists

Lui Beach Resort is a simple budget-friendly hotel run by a local family who live nearby. It's housed in a set of two-story whitewashed buildings with blue trim. There's a lovely koi fountain out front and greenery throughout the property. Reception takes place in a large, airy lobby with lavender accent walls and a shelf of books, plus a few lockers for guest use. While there's some seating, most guests do their lounging outside in the main courtyard area, where there's a compact pool and a poolside bar and restaurant with regular entertainment durning the busy season. Most guests are Russian package tourists, and the property gets plenty of couples and some families.

Location

Just off the main road in Candolim, a two-minute walk from shops, restaurants, and the beach

Lui Beach Resort is situated on a narrow, dusty side street, just off the main road in Candolim, and a two-minute walk from the beach. It takes around 15 minutes on foot to walk to Fort Aguada from here. The general area is touristy, with lots of hotels and restaurants in easy walking distance -- there's even a casino, Grand 7, about a five-minute walk away. Calangute is a 15-minute drive and has even more going for it, including a few clubs and lots of restaurants and hotels. The Goan capital, Panaji, takes about a half-hour to reach by car. Getting to the international airport in Vasco de Gama takes about an hour.
