Bottom Line

Part of the Heritage Hotels brand, the four-pearl Maidens offers historic charm and a tranquil environment slightly removed from the center of New Delhi. The well-maintained property's design and decor throughout the 55 spacious rooms, two restaurants, bar, and landscaped grounds reflect distinct British colonial influences. The gym has updated equipment and guests love the buffet breakfast and free poolside refreshments, but Wi-Fi comes with fees. The peaceful vibe also has the downside of not being within walking distance from most tourist sites, though there’s a metro station nearby and chauffeur service is available to several attractions. Guests who want a chain hotel experience in a more central location may prefer the Radisson Blu Marina Connaught Place.

Maidens Hotel

Scene

Majestic, historic property with renovated, but still-classic interiors

Originally built in 1903 to host visiting dignitaries and now a Heritage Hotel that’s been used as a set for both Bollywood and Hollywood films, there’s an Old World quality about the hotel that’s simultaneously simple and majestic. Pre-independence colonial influences can be seen in the design of its large, pristine white facade. Peacocks roam throughout the lush, immaculately landscaped grounds. Renovated interiors are spotless, but retain a vintage look thanks to Persian rugs, chandeliers, and classic furniture. Bright hallways are lined with arched windows, and marble flooring in several areas is particularly elegant. The polished, upscale ambience is a big draw for couples in particular, but families and business travelers are also common.

Location

Slightly removed from city center; most attractions under 30 minutes away by car or metro

The hotel’s location isn’t within walking distance to most hot spots, but being removed from hustle and bustle means that city noise isn’t much of a problem. The Red Fort is a 12-minute drive away, Jama Masjid Mosque is 20 minutes away by car or the Metro, and India Gate and the National Museum are both about 30 minutes away by car or public transport. The popular Chandni Chowk shopping area is about 15 minutes away by car. Indira Gandhi International Airport is about 40 minutes away by car. Hotel chauffeur services are available to area attractions for a fee.

Rooms

Simple 19th century design but updated with large walk-in closets, huge bathrooms, and minibars

Standard rooms are available in the Heritage or the Premier variety; both are spacious and simply designed, with classic furniture reminiscent of the 19th century, mostly bare walls, and high ceilings. Beds are large and comfortable. Hardwood floors in redesigned Premier Rooms give them a more updated feel. Carpeted rooms in the Heritage wing are in keeping with the hotel’s origins, and have especially lovely views of the pool or the garden. Deluxe and Luxury Suites have similar aesthetics but are much larger, with extras like drawing rooms and separate bedrooms.

All rooms have big walk-in closets, air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, safes, desks, and several USB charging ports near the beds. Wi-Fi is available, but for a fee. Rooms also have minibars and non-refrigerated snacks, and tea-and coffee-making facilities. Ironing equipment and extra beds are available on request.

Bathrooms are especially large and clean, and those in Premier Rooms or suites are decidedly more modern, fully designed with Italian marble and sleek wooden sinks with granite tops. Heritage rooms have shower/tub combos with fixed showerheads. Most other bathrooms have full bathtubs with handheld showerheads and separate walk-in showers with fixed showerheads. Toiletries and hairdryers are provided.

Features

Solid breakfast buffet (not included), decent gym, free poolside refreshments, and fees for Wi-Fi

Features here are lovely. The two restaurants and one bar on-site aren’t extravagantly decorated, but like most of the other areas of the hotel, they have a simple charm and furnishings evoke that a previous era. The breakfast buffet at the Garden Terrace isn’t included with rates, but it’s a highlight, with freshly made eggs, continental items, Indian fare, and charcuterie. The restaurant also serves Indian and international cuisine for lunch and dinner, and the al fresco dining option on a spacious terrace overlooking the gardens is popular with guests. The Curazon Room serves traditional and British-influenced Indian favorites in a room featuring vintage photographs from India in the early 1900s. Drinks, casual snacks, and music can be found in the Cavalry Bar amidst classic dark wood seating and bar cabinets. 24-hour room service is available.

The range and quality of other amenities here resemble those of most upscale hotels; the gym is small but modern, with sleek wood floors and updated equipment. The large outdoor pool offers a calm area to relax, with plenty of sunbeds and staff offering free iced tea and fruit.

Two lush outdoor lawns, an indoor banquet hall, a board room, and a multi-purpose meeting room provide several event venues. A two-computer business center has desks for extra work space. There are fees for Wi-Fi throughout the property.

There’s no self-laundry facility on the property, and laundry service can be pricey. However, ample parking on-site (self or valet) is free.
