Bottom Line

The luxury Radisson Blu Agra Taj East Gate is a dependable, secure, and convenient chain option just seven minutes by car to the Taj Mahal. Interiors and amenities are standard for a modern four-pearl property, but little stands out as exceptional. The 142 rooms are large and contemporary, while five restaurants and bars offer enough variety as far as food is concerned. Breakfast isn’t included with room rates. With a large outdoor pool, modern gym, spa, and kids’ activity room, the hotel checks all the family-friendly boxes. For similar rates, the ITC Mughal’s grounds and pool are much more majestic-looking, though rooms are more dated.

Oyster Hotel Review

Taj Hotel and Convention Centre, Agra

Scene

Standard four-pearl chain property with clean and modern, but unexceptional, interiors

The Radisson Blu Agra Taj East Gate is clean and contemporary, but doesn’t particularly stand out from any other modern upscale chain hotel. The property is large and mostly uncluttered, with gleaming granite floors, huge elevator foyers, and a lobby that’s outfitted in black and white modern furnishings. Deeper into the hotel, hallways are lined with clothing boutiques and souvenir shops, while a tea lounge offers a place to mingle. The grounds outside could use a bit more greenery and character, as there’s no garden area in which to stroll. Clientele is mostly leisure travelers who want both a reliable and upscale western brand in Agra.

Location

Seven minutes by car to Taj Mahal; 16-minute drive to other major Agra attractions

Although its immediate surroundings are rather shabby and get uncomfortably dark at night, this Radisson’s location is quiet, and ideal for tourists looking to be close to the Taj Mahal. Guests who don’t mind walking can take the 30-minute stroll to the iconic structure and its surrounding gardens, or reach it in seven minutes by car. Other major attractions like the Jama Mosque, I'timād-ud-Daulah Tomb, and Agra Fort are 16-minute drives away. Further out, the red sandstone city of Fatehpur Sikri is an hour’s drive away. Agra’s domestic airport is 33 minutes away by car. The hotel does arrange transportation to and from the airport for fees.

Rooms

Spacious, with minibars and free Wi-Fi

Well-sized rooms start with the 376-square-foot Superior variety. Wood floors and brown drapes against cream walls and linens, plus glass-topped desks, create a look that’s both classy and modern. Red cushions and gold satin trim on the bed runners look just regal enough without being gaudy, while warm yellow lighting, large armchairs, and ottomans add a cozy air to the spaces. None of the rooms have balconies, but large windows allow sunlight to stream in. Views are mediocre, but some room windows do allow for glimpses of the Taj Mahal’s distinctive dome.

All rooms have air-conditioning, 40-inch flat-screen TVs, safes, and free newspapers and Wi-Fi. Tea- and coffee-making facilities are provided, along with minibars. Business Class Rooms come with extras like free access to the Business Class Lounge downstairs, free limited ironing services, and included breakfast. Suites have separate living and sleeping areas, plus walk-in wardrobes.

Bathrooms, with granite sinks and several walls featuring mosaic tiles, are simple, but clean. All have walk-in showers with handheld showerheads, magnifying makeup mirrors, hairdryers, and a variety of toiletries. Suites have en-suite bathtubs.

Rooms can be baby-proofed upon request.

Features

Varied dining options, well-equipped gym and spa, and kid-friendly game room

There’s a decent range of features here but the dining options are the most special, and include 24-hour room service. Daawat-e-Nawab serves traditional North Indian dishes in a richly decorated space. Although the Mughal-style wall decor is lovely, the thick upholstery on the chairs and booths looks dated. Buffet breakfasts, lunches, and dinners are provided at The Latitude coffee shop. While the inclusion of breakfast with rates is dependent on the type of booking made, guests mostly love the varied spread of Indian favorites, made-to-order eggs, pancake stations, and fresh juices. A Grab & Run takeaway breakfast option is also available. Colorbar is a relaxed poolside space featuring colorful LED lights, lively music, tapas, grilled international items, and cocktails. Drinks can also be enjoyed at the Liquid Lounge Sports Bar, which features multiple screens that telecast sports. The more subdued Tea Lounge also serves pastries and light meals.

For leisure and wellness, the hotel’s Health Club is composed of a well-sized outdoor pool, an impressive gym equipped with modern machines and weights, a steam room, and a sauna. The modern Alive Spa gets great guest feedback for its deep tissue massages, reflexology or detoxifying treatments, and facials in addition to nail and waxing treatments. A couples’ therapy room with a private hot tub is available. There’s also a beauty salon for hair styling and makeup services.

An activity room features a play set, games, and ball pit for children, plus foosball and pool tables. For family entertainment, guests can purchase seats for the Noor-E-Taj show, chronicling the history of the Taj Mahal.

For business or personal events, five event rooms, including a Grand Ballroom, are equipped with audiovisual facilities. Business Class Room guests have access to the Business Class Lounge on the fourth floor, which offers lovely Taj Mahal views, plus free snacks and drinks all day. All guests can use the more low-key business center. Standard Wi-Fi throughout the property is free, but can be spotty. Valet parking and express laundry services are available.
