Bottom Line

This upscale hotel is located on the banks of Mansagar Lake, on the road that leads between tourist-friendly Jaipur and the former capital of Rajasthan, Amber. The 134 rooms here share a streamlined decor theme, with dark-green marble flooring, and some have balconies and/or lake views, but the presence of smoking rooms may put some travelers off. Facilities include a courtyard pool that gets lots of sunlight plus two restaurants, a bar, a modern fitness center, and meeting space for up to 120 guests. It's also a good option for families thanks to babysitting services, a playground, and a kids' club. The location outside of town is more picturesque than convenient. For something more central, consider the heritage Jai Mahal Palace instead.

Oyster Hotel Review

Trident, Jaipur

Scene

Modern Rajasthani-style hotel with large grounds but intimate feel

This upscale hotel is housed in a contemporary beige building fashioned in the traditional Rajasthani style, complete with enclosed jharoka-style balconies and a towering turret. The grounds are expansive, with lots of grassy space and a good number of footpaths flanked with tropical trees and shrubbery. Inside there's a cozy lobby with soft recessed lighting and dark-green marble floors, a stylistic motif found throughout the hotel, including in the rooms and other common areas. Restaurants are situated around the centerpiece courtyard swimming pool, but it's not an overly lively hotel and despite having over 100 rooms, it feels pretty intimate. Business travelers and tourists alike stay here, and the hotel attracts plenty of families owing to its kids' club and playground.

Rooms

Elegant rooms and suites with streamlined decor; some with lovely lake views

The Trident offers three types of lodging: Deluxe Garden View Rooms, Deluxe Lake View Rooms (distinguished from their entry-level counterparts by their fantastic views out over Mansagar Lake) and Suites with separate bedrooms, plus a living room with a balcony. Decor is more or less identical across categories, right down to the abstract watercolor art prints that hang above the beds. All have dark-green marble floors, blue-and-pale yellow patterned trims and rugs, and heavy blue blackout curtains paired with medium-hued wood furniture. Standard features include iPod docks, free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs, coffee- and tea-making facilities, minibars, and individually controlled air-conditioning. All rooms also have dual-voltage outlets, a real blessing for North American travelers. Bathrooms feature more dark-green marble both in the walk-in showers and on the countertops. Smoking rooms are available.

Features

Lovely courtyard pool with lots of sunlight, a spa, three bars and restaurants, and plenty for families and business travelers

Trident has great features for those looking for a low-key and relaxing stay. These include a large outdoor courtyard pool surrounded by (optionally) shaded lounge chairs and the area gets plenty of sunlight. The spa is equally fantastic, with a mix of Ayurvedic and Western massages, wraps, and scrubs. The fitness center offers a good selection of LifeFitness weight-training and cardio equipment.

Dining options include 24-hour room service, plus a main restaurant -- Jal Mahal 00 -- which serves a huge breakfast buffet every morning (for a fee) along with Indian and international food a la carte throughout the day and well into the evening. For something a bit more refined, Verandah serves fresh seafood and meats along with Italian vegetarian food at dinner time in a beautiful outdoor terrace overlooking the pool. Right next to Verandah is the hotel bar -- Mansagar -- which serves wines and spirits along with some light food items.

Other hotel facilities include three event spaces (two of which can be combined to seat up to 120 people theater-style) as well as a business center, free hotel-wide Wi-Fi, and laundry services. Babysitting (for a fee) is available for families and there's a kids' club, a game room with billiards, and a colorful outdoor playground with a slide. Parking is free.
