Bottom Line

Diva's Hotel is located a 10-minute stroll from Sultanahmet Square in the heart of old Istanbul. Its central location and low rates make this budget hotel ideal for tourists, though it can be tricky to find at first and is only accessed by a rather steep hill. The hotel is composed of 40 rooms over two buildings, connected by a beautiful garden courtyard, which is next to the hotel’s Turkish restaurant. A substantial breakfast is included with the already low rates. The rooms are clean and the classic decor includes colorful accent pieces, with nice views from the balconies on the upper floors, but bathrooms are cramped. Wi-Fi, while free, can be spotty. The nearby Senatus Hotel, which has similar rates, also has larger rooms and a more modern vibe.

Divas Hotel

Scene

Garden courtyard offers beautiful space for relaxing and eating

The hotel is quaint and cozy, with an abundance of French Provincial-style furniture heavy on crimson. Pink floral wallpaper gives the space a shabby-chic-meets-Arabian theme. The draw for guests, most of whom are tourists, is the lovely garden in the courtyard where the hotel’s two buildings meet. There are wooden tables and directors chairs set under a cabana-like shaded area for escaping the Turkish sun. The area is surrounded by greenery and vine-covered walls. The garden is connected to the hotel’s restaurant, so guests can enjoy a la carte dishes al fresco.

Location

In the center of old Istanbul, walkable to attractions

The entrance to the hotel sits on a quiet, narrow street in the Sultanahmet District, the oldest part of Istanbul, which is filled with mosques, palaces, and churches, along with restaurants and shops. There is a hill to climb to reach the hotel and past guests have complained that it's difficult to locate the entrance. It’s a five-minute walk to the historic Sultan Ahmed Mosque, also known as the Blue Mosque, and 10 minutes to both Sultanahmet Square, which holds Hippodrome of Constantinople, a stadium that hosted horse and chariot races in ancient times, and Istanbul’s Grand Bazaar. Topkapi Palace, from the Ottoman Empire, is a 20-minute walk. Istanbul Atatürk Airport is a 25-minute drive or 50 minutes by public transportation. A free one-way airport transfer is available for guests who reserve through the hotel’s website.

Rooms

Traditional decor, heavy on the red, with small bathrooms

The 40 rooms here, which include Singles, Doubles, and Triples, are decorated in a classical style. The plain beige walls include one patterned wallpapered accent wall and blond wood floors and furniture are made more dramatic by chandeliers dripping with crimson beads, floral bed linens, and vintage phones. Balconies are outfitted with dark wood bistro tables and chairs in the upper rooms and have nice views of the surrounding city and Strait of Istanbul. All rooms have small flat-screen TVs, minibars, electric kettles with instant coffee and tea bags, and safes. The pink-tiled bathrooms are tiny; the toilet fits snugly between the narrow stall showers and narrow bowl sinks. Wall-mounted hairdryers and toiletries are provided in the bathrooms.
