Bottom Line

The 58-room Metropole, which is within a five-minute walk of the town, is small for a resort hotel, but that's what gives it its intimate atmosphere. Rooms are basic and simply decorated, and those in the annex have views of the sea. The hotel has a private seaside area with lounge chairs and a children's play section, a small pool surrounded by beautiful gardens, a fitness center, and a spa. Its two restaurants specialize in seafood cooked in the local Ligurian style. Note that the property closes in November and December.

Metropole

Scene

Elegant simplicity and lots of plants and flowers in a hotel popular with leisure travelers

The Metropole's plain exterior belies the opulence of the lobby, which has white marble floors interspersed with black accent tiles, and is filled with plush cream-colored furniture. Just off the lobby is the Garden Terrace, where guests can drink or dine while taking in views of the sea. The grounds are covered with lush plant-life, and gray-slate pathways lead to a pretty pool area and out to the beach. The hotel's clientele is mostly tourists, although it does have business services and facilities, including five meeting rooms.

Features

Self-contained resort-style property with private beach and lovely pool

The resort is set up so that guests can find everything they need on-site. The beach doesn't have much sand, but includes a stone patio covered with lounge chairs. The small sandy area leads out into a play area for children, and paddle boats are available for guests' use. There's also a couple of ping-pong tables. A small courtyard swimming pool has a separate whirlpool area, and plush lounge chairs.

While the beach and pool are the main draws, the hotel has plenty of areas for relaxing, including a tea room, a reading room, and a grassy outdoor area with lounge chairs. There are two restaurants, one with a garden view, which serve local Ligurian cuisine with a heavy incorporation of fresh local seafood. The hotel's fitness center is spacious and bright and features a variety of weight machines as well as free weights, treadmills, and exercise bikes. Massage treatments are available in the small spa and there's a Turkish bath available for guests' use. Small- and medium-sized dogs are welcome for a fee, but they aren't allowed at the pool, on the beach, or in the restaurant. Parking is available in the hotel garage or in an uncovered lot for a fee. Note that the property closes in November and December.
