Bottom Line

This budget property has a motel-style structure, with an 80s-era decor manifest from the lobby to the plain rooms -- most of which retain bedspreads and colors that seem not to have changed for decades. However, guests have reported the rooms to be clean with comfortable beds. Many are also satisfied by the easy beach access, swimming pools, and continental breakfast. The hotel is situated towards the southeastern tip of Jekyll Island and enjoys a peaceful location off Beach View Drive.

Oyster Hotel Review

Days Inn & Suites by Wyndham Jekyll Island

Scene

80s-style decor throughout the two-floor buildings of a casual hotel

The decor at this Days Inn seems to have hardly budged from the 80s. The lobby, accessed through a covered pull-up driveway, is carpeted with mint-green patterns and has drop-ceilings with fluorescent panel lighting along with walls covered in a hand-painted mural of the beach. Families and couples seeking a slightly less expensive stay on the island flock here, and the vibe throughout the property is casual. Rooms are housed in long, two-story, motel-like buildings joined by outdoor concrete paths. There’s only one elevator that serves half the hotel; the other side requires stairs, or else making one’s way from the elevator through the breakfast area and a meeting space.

Location

Surrounded by trees and dunes toward the southeastern tip of the island

The hotel is surrounded by woods, dunes, and the ocean, and is located off the main road on the island, which is nonetheless narrow and doesn’t generate much traffic or a lot of noise. Outside of a couple of other property developments, there’s little immediately surrounding the hotel besides nature. Guests wanting stores or restaurants will need to drive a couple of miles away. Bike paths also abound in the vicinity and a boardwalk leads from the hotel’s grounds to the sandy beach. Jacksonville International Airport is about an hour south by car.

Rooms

Tiled drop ceilings and decor that looks decades old, but clean

Rooms are plain with blue drapes and dated ocean-themed blue bedspreads, which most guests report are clean, if worn around the edges. The furniture here is wicker or laminate wood, and all rooms have microwaves, coffeemakers, and mini-fridges. Larger rooms have kitchenettes with two-burner electric ranges, toasters, and basic cooking implements as well as separate living areas with pullout couches. All rooms also have balconies, some of which have ocean views, with tables and chairs. Bathrooms have plastic shower/tub combos, and some rooms have sinks in the sleeping areas. Guests have reported that during the day the air-conditioning struggles to cool spaces because of poor insulation.

Features

Two outdoor pools, some meeting space, and rentals for beach chairs and bikes

Rentals for beach chairs, bikes, umbrellas, kayaks, and paddleboards are all available in the hotel parking lot, right before the boardwalk to the sand. Upstairs from the lobby, there’s a small sitting area for the free continental breakfast, but no restaurant. Other property amenities include a limited amount of meeting space, a computer terminal and printer for guest use, side-by-side outdoor pools with an adjacent fire pit, and coin-operated laundry service. Freebies include Wi-Fi and parking.
