Bottom Line

Le Voyageur Motel is a budget-friendly option that’s ideal for families who’d like to be close to it all. The motel is two blocks from the boardwalk, beach, and Wildwoods Convention Center, and is within walking distance of several shops and restaurants. The pool is usually crowded with splashing children, but there are two sundecks that offer a little more peace and quiet. Le Voyageur has three room types, from standard motel rooms with one bed, to efficiencies with kitchenettes and separate living rooms. Despite being clean, rooms are seriously dated and lacking any kind of decorative flair. On-site parking and Wi-Fi are free, but guests will have to pay for laundry. Guests looking for a similar place with nicer rooms should check out sister property Dolphin Inn, which usually offers comparable nightly rates.

Le Voyageur Motel

Scene

Family-friendly motel with lots of kids

The scene at Le Voyageur is the same as many of its neighbors -- it’s loud during the day as hoards of children splash around in the pool, but quiet at night after the little ones have tired out from too many boardwalk games. Le Voyageur is definitely a place for families, so couples or solo travelers might be a little off-put by the pool mayhem that takes place each day. Respite comes in the form of two roof top sundecks -- which have plenty of lounge chairs and umbrella-covered dining tables and are usually free of children.

The brightly colored exterior of Le Voyageur gives way to a rather dull front office. The reception room is pretty dated, with dark wood panelings covering a few too many surfaces and a heinous multi-colored floor. It’s filled with local brochures and lots of dust-collecting tchotchkes, but check-in service is usually fast and pretty uncomplicated.

Location

On East Andrews, two blocks from the boardwalk

Le Voyageur is located on East Andrews Avenue -- two blocks from the boardwalk, beach, and the Wildwoods Convention Center. It’s about a 10- to 15-minute walk from Morey’s Pier and Raging Waters Water Park. At night, the area remains fairly quiet.

Rooms

Multiple room types, all are seriously dated

There are three room types at Le Voyageur, including standard motel rooms with a queen-size bed, two-room suites with two separate bedrooms, and efficiencies with kitchenettes. All rooms are in serious need of an update. Stuccoed white walls and ugly green carpeting are the first offenders to greet guests upon arrival. Couches, tables and chairs, and even a few kitchen appliances all appear to have seen better days -- especially when the taupe colored sofa has large dark patches across its cushions and the refrigerator is being held together by duct tape. Bedrooms are even worse, with forrest green and gold bedspreads and a college-quality desk and chair. However, rooms are equipped with modern flat-screen TVs.

Efficiencies have kitchenettes with white appliances, two gas burners, and a small sink. The ugly dark wood cabinets hold kitchen essentials like utensils, plates, cups, and pots and pans. Bathrooms have original, 1950s tile, but instead of looking charmingly vintage, they just look old. Bright yellow tiles surround the tiny room, which includes and shower-tub combo, toilet, and single sink. We noticed that some bathrooms smell a bit mildewy. Each room at Le Voyageur is also equipped with a fly swatter -- which, well, it pretty self explanatory.

Features

Pool, free parking and Wi-Fi, on-site guest laundry, two sundecks, and a grilling area

For families, the pool is definitely one of Le Voyageur’s best features. By Wildwood standards, the pool is fairly large and is surrounded by plastic chairs and a few sun loungers. There’s even a shallow, gated-off section for the little ones. From sunrise to sunset, the pool is crowded with lots and lots and lots of kids. It can get pretty loud with the unabashed screams of summertime fun, but you’ll be hard pressed to find a pool scene in this area that doesn’t look or sound similarly. For those who’d prefer something a little quieter, the two rooftop sun decks are usually free of children. One has a barbecue area with two grills and plenty of tables and chairs. There’s also a garage-like common space with VFW-style tables and chairs, a few laundry machines, and a coffee station. Guests usually congregate here on rainy days to play games or do laundry. Guest laundry is coin-operated, but parking in the on-site lot and Wi-Fi are free. It should be noted that Le Voyageur is only open seasonally, from mid-April through mid-September.
