Bottom Line

Ramada Khao Lak Resort is a four-pearl resort right on the beach, just a short boat ride from the Similan Islands. The 116 rooms and suites feature contemporary decor with flat-screen TVs, minibars, and air-conditioning for value rates. For a romantic getaway, an upgrade to the rooms with private pools, direct beach access, or whirlpool baths might be worth the splurge. There’s a hot breakfast buffet in the morning, a restaurant, and a coffee bar to satisfy guests’ dining needs (available all-inclusive rates). The freeform pool, spa, cooking classes, gym, and kids’ club manage to keep everyone entertained. The biggest drawback is the noise pollution from a next-door construction site and little to do or see within walking distance from the hotel. For an alternative hotel with similar amenities, Beyond Resort Khaolak is a quieter escape with an adult-only policy.

Ramada Khao Lak Resort

Scene

Beachfront resort with lush grounds and a clientele of families and couples

Ramada Khao Lak Resort is an (optional) all-inclusive beachfront resort that features a property brimming with tropical plants, a huge freeform blue outdoor pool, and the ever-so subtle Ramada red umbrellas that peek through the mix. The decor is a modern Thai style featuring a mix of tile and dark wooden floors, hints of ocean blue accents, colorful artwork in the buffet restaurant, open spaces, large floor-to-ceiling windows, and little air-conditioning besides the restaurant and the rooms. Upon arrival, guests are greeted by free drinks and cool towels to help offset the heat and to provide a sense of the type of friendly service they’ll receive. The clientele are mostly couples and families. It might be a bit crowded, but it’s not running kids that are the noise issue here -- it’s the next door construction site with long hours of bothersome noise that’s been going on since July 2015.
