Bottom Line

Sabai Beach resort is a simple and charming, mid-range getaway spot on a quiet beach. Those looking to party should keep in mind that the property is far from the regularly-scheduled Full Moon Party, and there isn't much to do as the venue has no real facilities other than a small beachside restaurant. However the location is peaceful, not far from the ferry pier, and the bungalows do sit right on the sand. Overall, the Sabai is a safe choice for families and couples, and won't break the bank.

Sabai Beach Resort

Scene

Serene spot with little action

The Sabai is small with almost no common spaces outside of a wooden reception area, occupying a quiet stretch of beach far from Koh Phangan's Full Moon Party scene. The lone restaurant here isn't a party spot either, just a simple place to eat, have a drink, and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. Most guests can be found sitting on beach chairs or laying in hammocks right by the water. Families will enjoy this safe spot -- the sea is shallow here and thus kids can enjoy -- and couples also like the chilled-out, uneventful location.

Location

Right on one of Koh Phangan's most quiet beaches with water too shallow for swimming

The resort sits right on one of the island's most quiet beaches. Keep in mind that the water is often too shallow for swimming and at high tide there really isn't any beach to speak of. Access to and from the property is excellent however, as the ferry pier in Tong Sala town is only a 10-minute drive down the road. The Sabai provides pickup services and can arrange taxi travel as well as tours around the island. The neighboring island of Koh Samui has the nearest airport.

Rooms

Small bungalows on the beach with free Wi-Fi and wooden porches

The traditional bungalows here are small and sparsely outfitted, offering a rich, earth-tone decor and wooden furnishings ideal for guests who are more about simple charms as opposed to extravagance. Low platform beds come with netting, and spaces also have small TVs, mini-fridges, and free Wi-Fi. Wooden porches are also available with lounge seating. And hammocks by the water are in front of almost every room. Some bathrooms have open showers that blend into the sink and toilet area, while other showers are enclosed in a cozy, well-designed rock cave.

Features

Almost no major amenities, though free breakfast provided at beachside restaurant

Sabai Beach Resort has almost no facilities or major amenities to speak of. There’s no pool, gym, or spa, nor is there a bar. But you can get cold beer at the resort's Thai food restaurant next to the beach. The place isn't fancy, with wooden seating and architecture, but does provide an inclusive breakfast for guests. Wi-Fi is free throughout the resort.
