Bottom Line

The upper-middle-range Dorsett Kuala Lumpur is a contemporary, reasonably priced hotel in the busy Bukit Bintang neighborhood of Kuala Lumpur. It’s a five-minute walk from quality shops and restaurants, and an eight-minute walk to a monorail station. This 30-floor hotel has 320 rooms, all of which are fresh thanks to a renovation completed in late 2016. Rooms have flat-screen TVs, desks, sitting areas, and rainfall showers, as well as free Wi-Fi. On-site features consist of a rooftop infinity pool and separate kiddy pool, adjacent indoor gym, and meeting spaces. In addition to room service, an all-day restaurant serves international and local cuisines both buffet-style and a la carte, and there's a lounge providing various beverages. There's no spa here, and the presence of both smoking and non-smoking floors may be a downside for some. It's worth comparing rates with the PARKROYAL Kuala Lumpur for its spa and additional dining options.

Scene

Contemporary hotel with family-friendly atmosphere

This bustling hotel sees a mix of mostly families and couples looking to take advantage of the Bukit Nintang location near ample shopping and dining. The 30-floor high-rise hotel was built in 2007 and underwent a renovation to the interiors in late-2016. Common areas are elegant, with a sleek neutral-tone design and pops of bronze. The first-floor Windows Lounge is a cozy space with various chairs and couches, while the all-day Checkers Cafe is more eye-catching with its mustard-yellow chairs and houndstooth seating. A popular spot at the hotel is the top-floor infinity pool, which has pleasant views and an adjacent gym and kiddy pool. This is a decent value for the area.

Location

In the Golden Triangle, close to restaurants and shopping centers of Bukit Bintang

Location is one of the best features of the Dorsett Kuala Lumpur, as it’s situated in the Golden Triangle, Kuala Lumpur's main shopping and nightlife district that includes the shopping hub of Bukit Bintang. The popular Pavilion shopping center, which has over 550 shops and restaurants, is a four-minute walk from the hotel, as is the luxury Starhill Gallery shopping center with seven levels of shops. There are two rail stations within walking distance; the Raja Chulan Monorail station is a 14-minute walk away and Bukit Bintang Monorail station is an eight-minute walk away. The downtown area, with the Petronas Towers and Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, is about a seven-minute drive or 25-minute walk away. Kuala Lumpur International Airport can be reached in 45 minutes by car.

Rooms

Contemporary rooms with safes, desks, and rainfall showerheads

The 320 rooms of the Dorsett were refurbished in late 2016. They're spacious and attracting, featuring a contemporary design heavy on neutral tones, wood, and gold accents. A range of rooms and suites are available, the smallest measure 322 square feet (30 square meters). All rooms come with flat-screen TVs, desks, tea- and coffee-making facilities, electronic safes, and free Wi-Fi. Sleek white bathrooms have shower/tub combos or walk-in showers with rainfall showerheads. Hairdryers and toiletries are provided. Suites with living spaces are available, and some units have lovely city views. Be aware that both smoking and non-smoking floors are available. On the downside, some past guests have complained about noise issues from things like nearby construction.

Features

Rooftop infinity pool, a fitness center, and international restaurant, but no spa

The highlight at Dorsett Kuala Lumpur is the top-floor infinity pool, which is a decent size. It has a separate kiddy pool and is partly shaded, but there are a limited number of loungers available. Also on this level is a small gym with cardio machines and strength-training equipment. Unfortunately, there is no spa here. For food, the first-floor Checkers Cafe is open all day, serving international and local cuisines buffet-style and a la carte. Room service is available 24/7. Windows Lounge serves a variety of beverages. Meeting spaces are available for rent. Parking is free, but it’s worth noting that parking spots are small. Wi-Fi is free and accessible throughout the property.
