DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Kuala Lumpur

Considering the DoubleTree has a central location in Kuala Lumpur, it’s not surprising that both business travelers and couples stay at this property. Many guests are Hilton members that appreciate the chain hotel's standard offerings and amenities, though this means the property is generic and lacks much character. While sleek and modern, expect lots of neutral tones and decor that could be found anywhere in the world. Metal sculptures in the lobby, a mirrored ceiling in the lounge, and ample seating by the shady outdoor pool add some character. Although busy with guests, the atmosphere remains subdued. Rates are competitive and make this hotel a good pick for travelers more interested in location than on-site offerings. 

The DoubleTree by Hilton Kuala Lumpur is located in a central area of the city, connected to the Intermark shopping mall, which has dozens of food and clothing outlets and a supermarket. Ampang Park LRT metro station is a five-minute walk from the hotel via a connected walkway. There are numerous dining options in the immediate area and it's a 20-minute walk from the high-rise Petronas Twin Towers and KLCC Park. The Kuala Lumpur Convention Center is about a 23-minute walk away, while Sempang Airport is a 15-minute drive from the hotel. The hotel also provides a free shuttle service to area attractions, including the shopping area of Bukit Bintang and city center.

The 540 rooms and suites here range from 344-square-foot rooms to 1195-square-foot Terrace Suites with separate living areas. Across the board, rooms are contemporary and well-maintained, though outfitted in a generic blend of neutral tones and chain-like fittings -- think light-wood furniture, white walls and bed linens, and characterless modern artwork. Nevertheless, amenities are excellent, consisting of built-in flat-screen TVs, international adaptors, and long work desks next to ergonomic chairs. Also provided are minibars, tea- and coffee-making facilities, pillow menus, and closets with electronic safes, ironing facilities, and hairdryers. Marble-tiled bathrooms are sleek, each with one glass overlooking the bedrooms; they may lack privacy for some, though shades are available. Lower-category rooms have walk-in rainfall showers, while upgraded units add separate bathtubs. Magnifying mirror, quality toiletries, and bathrobes and slippers are included. 

From the free warm chocolate chip cookies (typical of the DoubleTree brand) guests receive upon arrival, to the five restaurants and bars on-site, the DoubleTree by Hilton Kuala Lumpur certainly meets the dining needs of guests. Axis Lounge has drinks and light bites; Cellar Door is a gastropub serving unique drinks to pair with dishes; Makan Kitchen specializes in Malaysian cuisine; The Food Store is a relaxed cafe; and Tosca is an Italian restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating overlooking the pool. Guests in Executive-level rooms and suites get access to the lounge, which provides free continental breakfast, evening alcoholic beverages and appetizers, and all-day tea, coffee, and juices. 

The outdoor pool is attractive and lined with a variety of seating, but because it's surrounded by tall buildings, it remains in the shade a large part of the day. A 24-hour fitness center is well-equipped with modern cardio and strength-training equipment, including free weights. On the downside, there is no spa here. Meeting and event spaces are on-site, and self parking is free (valet parking is available for a charge). Wi-Fi is free for Hilton Honors members, which is a free program to join.
