Bottom Line

The 468-room Grand Millennium Kuala Lumpur is an upscale property with a stellar location that’s near a monorail station, the Pavilion shopping center, and Fahrenheit88 mall. Room decor varies by category, but all are elegant and come with quality amenities such as separate bathtubs and showers, free Wi-Fi, and coffee- and tea-making facilities. Club Rooms have access to a lounge with free breakfast, afternoon tea, and evening cocktails. Unfortunately, many guests report visible wear and tear in both rooms and common areas. Features here consist of a well-sized outdoor pool and children’s pool, four restaurants offering a variety of cuisine -- Cantonese, Japanese, and international fare -- a gym, and mediocre spa. For a true luxury property with more impressive facilities, consider the Westin Kuala Lumpur

Oyster Hotel Review

Grand Millennium Kuala Lumpur

Scene

Bustling hotel with evident wear and variety of guests

A stellar central location in Bukit Bintang near shopping and eateries makes the sophisticated Grand Millennium Kuala Lumpur a good pick for travelers wanting to be in a lively area. Business travelers, as well as couples and families on vacation all stay here, and ample common areas allow guests to spread out. A grand lobby with an enormous chandelier, fountain, and glass elevator has several seating areas, plus four restaurants and a Club Lounge also help disperse guests. Unfortunately, evident wear and tear is visible throughout, and many past guests have complained of maintenance issues, such as hot tubs and steam rooms not working. This hotel doesn't live up to its advertised five-star rating, but affordable rates and an array of features still make it a good value.

In the center of Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur's shopping and entertainment district

The location of Grand Millennium Kuala Lumpur is ideal for travelers wanting an exciting, bustling atmosphere near the city’s major shopping centers. The hotel is right on the Bintang Walk, a popular strip in the shopping and entertainment district of Bukit Bintang. The Pavilion Kuala Lumpur shopping mall is a one-minute walk away, as is Farenheit88 shopping mall. Numerous other stores, restaurants, and bars line the surrounding streets. Rooms

Spacious rooms with appealing bathrooms and big windows, but evident wear

The 468 rooms here are spacious and attractive -- if a bit bland in some categories -- with entry-level units measuring 430 square feet (40 square meters). Expect mostly neutral-tone decor, except in red-and-white-themed Executive Suites, with largely traditional furnishings that are in need of an update and often showing wear. Floor-to-ceiling windows let in lots of light, and some offer scenic views of the city. Beds are comfortable, and sufficient amenities consist of free Wi-Fi, desks, flat-screen TVS, minibars, coffee- and tea-making facilities, closets with ironing equipment and digital safes, and bathrobes and slippers. Marble bathrooms are upscale, housing bathtubs and separating glass-walled showers, as well as hairdryers and ample free toiletries. Upgrades include suites with separate sitting areas.

Guests in Club Rooms get access to a lounge overlooking a koi pond with free breakfast, afternoon snacks, and evening cocktails. Meeting spaces are also located here. Parking is free.

Four largely well-reviewed restaurants are on-site, though many travelers choose to dine at one of the plethora of dining options just outside the hotel.Bistro 160 is the all-day eatery serving international fare; everything from pasta to pastries to Asian food are on offer here. Lai Ching Yuen serves Cantonese dishes for lunch and dinner, while Hanaya has Japanese fare such as sushi and teppanyaki. The Mill Cafe is open all day, and it has open kitchens preparing Malaysian and Middle Eastern specialties, plus other cuisines. Breakfast buffets here are popular. Room service is offered 24/7.
