While Hotel La Perla is up on a hill (about a 20-minute walk away from the lake, town, and public transportation), the three-pearl Hotel Garni Corona is situated right on Menaggio's main piazza, which borders Lake Como. It's close to the town's restaurants and cafes -- guests are spoiled for choice -- and everything in town is within walking distance. Garni Corono's 24 spacious rooms are all spacious (the triple, quadruple, and multi-level rooms especially so) and come with mini-fridges, wall-mounted flat-screen satellite TVs, air-conditioning, and free Wi-Fi. Breakfast is included and delicious, though that's the extent of facilities offered (no pool or restaurant, like Hotel La Perla).

Hotel Belvedere is a three-pearl property with stunning views of Lake Como from Bellagio’s peaceful hilltop outskirts. Family-owned since 1880, the hotel has heaps of Italian charm and packs in extensive facilities like a heated outdoor pool, whirlpool, sauna, Turkish bath, gym, and spa. Purportedly the oldest hotel in Bellagio, Metropole has an elegant and romantic style but also modern conveniences -- such as flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, and safes -- in the rooms. The hotel does get some complaints of noise due to its location; parents hoping for a quieter spot might prefer Hotel Belvedere Bellagio.
