Best Value Hotels in Lake Garda

Vacationing in Lake Garda (and let’s be honest, anywhere in Italy) ain’t cheap, but these resorts, inns, and apartment campsites provide guests with plenty of ways to save some Euros. Think: free breakfasts, free parking, and free thermal-spa access. Take a look at the best value hotels in Lake Garda.

1

Wellness Hotel Casa Barca

Malcesine, Veneto, Italy

This family-run hotel has a lot going for it. For starters, the bright, modern decor is a refreshing change of pace from so many of the dated hotels in the area, and it's wellness ethos puts an extra-relaxing touch on a stay here. Second, there are some serious freebies, including resort-wide Wi-Fi and a daily breakfast buffet with hot and cold items (it gets rave reviews). The 29 fresh rooms come with mini-fridges, air-conditioning, and flat-screen TVs, plus balconies or terraces -- some have outstanding views of the lake. Wellness Hotel Casa Barca has two outdoor pools, gardens and trees all around, and a modern wellness center and spa.

2

Castello – Lake Front Hotel & Living Suite

Malcesine, Veneto, Italy

The handsome and family-run Hotel Castello Lake Front has a waterfront location just a short walk from the heart of Malcesine. Its rates are competitive, and include free hot breakfast with made-to-order omelets from the hotel's excellent restaurant (plus guests receive a substantial discount for lunch and dinner), free on-site garage parking, and free Wi-Fi throughout. The 36 modern and bright rooms come with flat-screen TVs, minibars, and marble bathrooms. Most have balconies and patios with exceptional views. Hotel Castello has its own private pebble beach and pier on the property.

3

Hotel Benacus Malcesine

Malcesine, Veneto, Italy

The 29-room Hotel Benacus Malcesine is a peaceful and friendly family-run option with lovely views of the majestic mountain range that towers above the property. Many of the clean and airy rooms have balconies and lake or mountain views. Not only are the rates quite reasonable for the area, but they include free breakfast buffet with eggs, cheese, and cold cuts; free hotel-wide Wi-Fi and access to a computer workstation; and free on-site parking. The solid rates and features (including an outdoor pool and whirlpool and lovely lawn area) mean that Hotel Benacus is often full.

4

Hotel Savoy Palace – TonelliHotels

Riva Del Garda, Trentino-Alto Adige, Italy

Located just a five-minute walk from Pini beach on the outskirts of Riva del Garda, the mid-range Hotel Savoy Palace draws vacationing couples and families. Its 109 rooms are modern, though basic, with amenities like flat-screen TVs, minibars, and furnished balconies. Common areas feel a bit tired, but include outdoor and indoor pools, a sauna, and a fitness area. Free yoga on the beach (mats provided) and hiking or walking tours are available, as are city bike rentals and free mountain bike tours and a free kids' club during the summer. Guests can also borrow sports equipment. Local, seasonal fare in at the on-site restaurant includes free breakfast and free afternoon tea with snacks (the hotel also provides all-inclusive dining options, including breakfast, lunch, and dinner buffets). Wi-Fi and parking are both free.

5

Hotel Corte Valier

Lazise, Veneto, Italy

The upscale Hotel Corte Valier is all about pampering. The hotel is right on the shores of Lake Garda, and the beautiful views of the water and the fully equipped spa are the property's two biggest highlights. The Corte Valier is also within walking distance to restaurants and sights in the historic town of Lazise. Other amenities like a free and generous buffet breakfast (with made-to-order omelets and prosecco) and huge pools draw travelers seeking a relaxing getaway. There is also plenty of meeting space to accommodate business conferences. Rooms are spacious and clean-lined, and most get gorgeous views of the lake.

6

Hotel Caesius Thermae & Spa Resort

Bardolino, Veneto, Italy

The room rate at this mid-range resort includes access to the thermal pools, saunas, and steam rooms at its extensive spa. Typical spa treatments like massages and facials are available for additional fees, but that's just the tip of the iceberg for the spa's offerings: the Caesius also has a dietitian on staff who can plan three to seven day cleanses, and services like thermal water inhalation therapy. The hotel's other amenities include free Wi-Fi and a buffet breakfast, which offers a variety of options including organic, gluten-free, and Ayurvedic items.

7

Hotel Cristina

Limone sul Garda, Lombardy, Italy

Hotel Cristina is a large, budget-friendly '60s-era hotel featuring a spectacular setting on the side of the hill overlooking the north end of Lake Garda. The Limone town center and lakeside is walkable downhill, though the way back up can be a struggle, as can navigating the hotel's many steps. Most of the 158 guest rooms are in need of a makeover and have old-fashioned amenities, however the majority also extend to balconies with superb views. The fabulous lake vistas can also be enjoyed from the main restaurant and both pools. Breakfast is  included in the rate, and is a decent spread, though it can get repetitive; an optional half-board rate covers a buffet dinner. The hotel offers free shuttle service to and from town center, as well as free underground parking. All in all, while certainly dated, this is a good value option with a stunning setting.

8

Hotel La Perla

Garda, Veneto, Italy

The Hotel La Perla is simple in its offering and dated in appearance. In the past, it has been popular with tour groups, particularly senior groups. The hotel has rebranded as a biker-oriented hotel, and offers a variety of services for those who want to cycle around the beautiful Lake Garda area. Rooms are basic, but clean, and amenities include a large pool. Rates include breakfast, Wi-Fi, and parking. Overall, the location suits travelers seeking a comfortable, if plain, home base from which to take day trips and explore Lake Garda.

9

Hotel Malcesine

Malcesine, Veneto, Italy

The lower-middle-range, 60-room Hotel Malcesine is located in the heart of the city, on the shores of beautiful Lake Garda. Budget-friendly rates that include a hot breakfast make it popular with tour groups. The restaurant/bar, which has a lakefront deck, serves lunch and dinner. Free coffee and tea are available in the lobby. But Wi-Fi, which doesn't reach all rooms, comes with a fee, and there's no on-site parking. Rooms are small and dated, and lack air-conditioning, mini-fridges, and coffeemakers.

10

Camping Bella Italia

Peschiera del Garda, Veneto, Italy

This massive campsite on Lake Garda is an inexpensive way to visit the beautiful lake and surrounding spots in northern Italy. There are several different accommodations available, including apartments, bungalows, and mobile homes. It also has a large water park with swimming pools and slides, sports courts, entertainment for kids, two restaurants, and a bar. Camping Bella Italia can get very busy and crowded during peak times.

11

The Garda Village

Sirmione, Lombardy, Italy

The Garda Village is a basic hotel that can be a good jumping-off point for exploring the area around Lake Garda (a car is recommended). This property is comprised of individual mobile homes and bungalows, spread out over grounds set with small trees. Rooms are basic and decor is dated, but they do have kitchenettes and small flat-screen TVs (and some bungalows are more modern than others). There are tennis courts, an outdoor pool, a small beach, and windsurfing facilities all on-site but there is a fee for Wi-Fi and the location isn't accessible by public transportation.

12

Del Garda Village and Camping

Peschiera del Garda, Veneto, Italy

The Camping del Garda site has a range of sleeping accommodations, including campsites, bungalows, and mobile homes. Some of these, the bungalows in particular, are worse for wear, but the mobile homes are generally newer and nicer. The grounds are right off the shores of Lake Garda, and there are two large pools and two children’s pools on-site. Camping del Garda attracts mostly young families and others traveling on a budget.
