Tropical Resort Langkawi

The two-and-a-half-pearl Tropical Resort lives up to its name. Beautiful, well-manicured trees surround the hotel and a variety of potted plants and seating are placed across the property. A charming sunlit coffee house has stocked bookshelves and opens up to the gardens with more space for guests to lounge. The decor throughout is simple and more contemporary that the average budget hotel. The restaurant, for example, has a mix of wooden and black-wicker tables and chairs topped with small potted plants, and floor-to-ceiling windows with garden views. There's little to entertain kids, but this is a great option for couples in search of a relaxing beach vacation at an affordable price.

Tropical Resort is near the beach town of Pentai Cenang on the island of Langkawi, convenient to shops, restaurants, and activities. It’s located between a main road and the beach; it can get noisy in the mornings but not nearly as loud as staying in town would be. It’s a 10-minute walk to Pentai Cenang and a two-minute walk to the beach. There are many spas in this area (including one next door) since people flock to the tropical destination to relax. Family-friendly activities are also within walking distance: The largest aquarium in Malaysia, UnderWater World, is a 14-minute walk from the hotel. Langkawi International Airport is an 18-minute drive away. It’s not necessary for visitors to have a car to get around, but the hotel does offer free parking, as well as taxi and scooter rentals. 

The 25 ground-level rooms of Tropical Resort are clean and comfortable with a contemporary, no-frills design. Rooms have white walls and tile floors, dark-wood furniture, and neutral-tone linens. Some rooms have small pieces of artwork or headboards with patterned fabric for a bit of decor. All rooms have patios with chairs that look out to the pretty gardens. Also standard are ceiling fans and air-conditioning, small flat-screen TVs, tea- and coffee-making facilities, and mini-fridges. Hairdryers are available upon request. There are free bottled water and free Wi-Fi as well. Bathrooms have all been renovated and have modern tiling, basin sinks, stall showers, and bars of soap. Family Rooms are available.

The Tropical Resort offers more than the average budget hotel. Most guests choose the property because it has direct access to a pretty stretch of beach, though there are no loungers provided. On-site, there are a pleasant swimming pool with a shallow area for kids, a coffee house, and a restaurant. All rates include a basic free hot and cold breakfast, though guests suggest asking for cooked eggs as they aren't usual volunteered. Tour assistance, free Wi-Fi throughout, and free parking are available, plus there's a car and scooter rental stand at the front of the hotel. A spa next door offers discounted treatments for guests.
