Hipotels La Geria

Stooping palm trees, colorful flowers, cacti, and dark local volcanic stones dot the beautiful grounds at Hipotels La Geria, an upper-middle-range beachfront resort popular with German and British guests. The property is housed in a white V-shaped building directly on Avenida de las Playas -- Puerto del Carmen’s promenade -- and many of its rooms offer at least partial views. Although part of a medium-sized chain of more than 25 properties in Spain, La Geria doesn’t have a strong corporate vibe and the atmosphere here is relaxed and friendly. With salmon and pale pink walls, beige floors, white couches, and a huge skylight, the lobby feels fresh and appealing. A black double staircase flanked by plants leads from the main reception to the dining area, which offers access to the restaurant and bar. 

The hotel is located across the street from Pocillos Beach, a long stretch of sand situated between Puerto del Carmen and the airport. The area is mostly residential, with just a handful of large beachfront resorts and several gated communities. There are a couple of cafes nearby, but guests will find a wider array of dining, drinking, and shopping options in Puerto del Carmen, which is a five-minute drive away. The airport is just 10 minutes from the hotel, and famous Timanfaya National Park -- home to several volcanoes -- can be reached in about 20 minutes. 

La Geria offers 242 Standard Double Rooms and Junior Suites, all of which feature laminate floors, simple wooden furniture, colorful abstract paintings above the beds, and an earth tone palette with blue accents in curtains and bedspreads. Though a little generic, rooms are clean and large windows let in lots of sunlight. Amenities include furnished balconies (some with partial or full ocean views), wall-mounted flat-screen TVs, minibars (on request), and seasonal air-conditioning. Wi-Fi, safes, and electric kettles are available for a fee. Clean bathrooms have white tiles with a blue pattern, marble countertops, and shower/tub combos. Each Junior Suite has a separate living area with a sofa bed for an additional guest. 

The restaurant serves a varied international buffet spread in a bright space with large windows overlooking the grounds. It is open for all thee meals and has show-cooking areas for meats, fish, and egg dishes. Sandwiches are available at the snack bar which has poolside seating and a drinks menu. The pool is large and appealing, with lots of loungers and parasols. A shallow kiddy section is gated-off from the main pool for safety. The hotel offers other nice perks for kids, including a kids’ club with activities, a playground, mini-golf, and a full entertainment program for all ages. Additionally, there is a small fitness center, two tennis courts, and free outdoor parking. Wi-Fi is free in the lobby, but there is a fee for in-room Internet access and guests report poor service.
