Bottom Line

Altis Prime is an all-suites hotel with a simple, modern look. Opened in 2010, this 78-suite property is ideal for families or couples looking for more space. The streamlined decor features contemporary furniture, wooden accents, and a palette of cool, soothing creams and grays. Rooms have funky light fixtures, attractive throw pillows, and big flat-screen TVs. Extra conveniences include the small kitchenettes and spacious living rooms. The exterior rooms get great natural light, but some street noise, whereas interior rooms overlooking a courtyard are a little darker, but also quieter. One hotel highlight is the rooftop deck complete with Jacuzzi. The location is convenient, within walking distance to numerous sights including Avenida da Liberdade, Lisbon's main artery lined by shops. Though Altis Prime doesn't have many on-site amenities -- no spa, pool, or fitness center -- guests have access to amenities at other Altis properties. There is a cozy cafe and room service is available 24 hours a day.

Hotel Altis Prime

Location

In Sao Mamede, near the university and botanical gardens

Altis Prime is located in Sao Mamede, an area of Lisbon just west of Avenida da Liberdade, the main artery of the city. The tree-lined street features numerous high-end hotels and shops.

Lisbon, the capital of Portugal, is a beautiful, colorful city overlooking the Atlantic. Like Rome and San Francisco, Lisbon is a city built on seven hills; but it has an Athens-like vibe with white-washed, red-roofed buildings, a fishing community, and laid-back people. Though many buildings were destroyed in the Great Earthquake of 1755, Lisbon still has a rich history (including historic buildings and cobblestone streets).

Originally referred to as the "eighth wonder of the world," Lisbon was a major importer of exotic goods from Europe and Asia. But nowadays, Lisbon can be overlooked due to the popularity of the quaint, seaside beach towns nearby. But those who love the city can tell visitors the many things they miss when skipping over Lisbon; it is a city of iconic historic buildings (such as St. George's Castle), extensive museums, and fabulous shopping -- particularly for gold, silver, and antiques.

  • 17-minute drive to Lisbon Portela Airport, or 33 minutes via public transportation
  • 2-minute walk to the Botanical Gardens of the university
  • 3-minute walk to Aberta University
  • 5-minute walk to the Baixa, the financial district
  • 6-minute walk to Avenida de Liberdade
  • 14-minute walk to Rossio, a main square
  • 14-minute walk to Barrio Alto, the heart of Lisbon's nightlife
  • 16-minute walk to Chiado, the main shopping area
  • 21-minute walk to the Santa Justa historic elevator, with great views
  • 22-minute walk to Praca de Comercio, a beautiful plaza facing the river
  • 26-minute walk to the National Museum of Ancient Art, or 11 minutes via public transportation
  • 7-minute drive to Casa dos Bicos, or 10 minutes via public transportation
  • 8-minute drive to St. George's Castle, or 23 minutes via public transportation
  • 8-minute drive to Alfama, a Moorish area with fado clubs, or 19 minutes via public transportation
  • 15-minute drive to the the Coach Museum, the largest museum of royal coaches in the world, or 26 minutes via public transportation
  • 16-minute drive to the Jeronimos Monastery, or 28 minutes via public transportation
  • 17-minute drive to the Belem Tower, or 36 minutes via public transportation
