Bottom Line

The Tivoli Jardim is a high-style hotel in a great location right on bustling Avenida da Liberdade (Lisbon's main street, lined by shops, restaurants, and sights). There are two attractive restaurants with sleek, whimsical decor reminiscent of Philippe Starck's style (picture crystal chandeliers and gold and silver furniture), but aside from that, the hotel has very few on-site amenities. However, guests do have access to the facilities at the sister hotel next door. Although rooms are small, they are attractive and hip, with coral throws and funky artwork, as well as up-to-date technology: iPod docks, flat-screen TVs, and Wi-Fi (for a fee).

AVANI Avenida Liberdade Lisbon Hotel

Location

Just off of lively Avenida da Liberdade

Tivoli Jardim has a great, central location for tourists. Just off of Avenida da Liberdade, the hotel is within walking distance of the Avenida metro stop and the heart of Baxia, Chiado, and Bairro Alto neighborhoods.

Avenida da Liberdade, Lisbon's main artery, is a tree-lined street packed with high-end hotels and shops. But Bairro Alto is also a bustling area in Lisbon. Popular due to its lively nightlife spots, it is also home to vintage and antique shops. The cobblestone streets are often crowded with people, as are the area's bars and restaurants. Largely spared during the earthquake, Bairro Alto has some beautiful historic monuments and sights. Like in other areas of Lisbon, visitors should be careful in Bairro Alto at night, especially on the side streets; they have a reputation for loitering drug dealers.

Nearby Alfama, a Moorish area, is a fishing town with great fado clubs. Like Bairro Alto, it can also be a bit dangerous at nights. Baxia, the financial district, attracts mainly business travelers. But it does have good shopping, particularly for gold and silver. West of Baxia, Chiado is the main shopping district.
