Bottom Line

Brown’s Downtown is a trendy boutique hotel with an excellent location in the heart of Lisbon. The 36 rooms at the mid-range property, which come with tiny kitchenettes, are impeccably decorated with well-curated furnishings and impressive technology, including iPads, iMacs, and iHome radios. Breakfast is available for a fee at the hotel’s Brown’s Downtown Coffee Shop, another cool space with outdoor seating and hip decor. Guests have complained about a spotty Wi-Fi signal, and noise from the hallways and rooms above at Brown's Downtown. Travelers might want to compare rates with Olissippo Saldanha, an upscale hotel with modern rooms and spacious bathrooms in a quiet neighborhood.

Brown’s Downtown Hotel

Scene

Chic boutique hotel with a creative vibe

Brown’s Downtown is a charming bluish building with decorative iron rails that sits in a row of connected buildings on a one-way, cobbled street. Inside, the lobby has a chic, industrial feel with concrete floors, loft windows, and track lighting. Under a long mirror, black-and-white photos are propped up atop short, wooden bookcases lining a wall. A variety of modern and trendy furniture makes up the seating areas, including wooden and glass tables and retro-inspired chairs. Wall-mounted swing-arm lamps add a creative vibe to the space, while jazz music plays through the speakers, giving the guests, mainly couples, a smooth soundtrack.

Location

On quiet street within walking distance of restaurants, shops, and public transportation

Brown’s Downtown is conveniently located in Lisbon's city center. It’s a five-minute walk to Rossio Square, one of the city’s main squares since the 13th century, where guests can go for restaurants, shops, and architecture. It’s also within a 10-minute walk of Camoes Square District with nightlife and entertainment. The location is less than a 15-minute walk to most of the sightseeing destinations, including the Bairro Alto, the Praca do Comercio, and even St. George’s Castle and the Alfama neighborhood. There’s a metro stop within two blocks, putting the airport within a 25-minute commute on public transportation, or a 15-minute drive, depending on traffic.
