Casa do Bairro by Shiadu

Scene

Cozy, artistic, and welcoming bed and breakfast

Tucked away in a hidden building on a narrow side street, the entrance of Casa do Bairro welcomes guests through a flower and vine-covered trellis. The reception area doubles as the breakfast room; it has a glass ceiling and wall and is a bright and warm space, even in winter. There is one large dining table and a couple of smaller tables as well as stocked book shelves decorated with fun little knickknacks and signs. The hallways are lined with artistic lamps, red couches, and rugs and the walls are filled with original oil paintings. There is a narrow terrace on top of the property with a few small tables, surrounded by lemon trees and an assortment of plants. The atmosphere is intimate and a true glimpse into Portuguese life.

Location

Hidden away near the historic center on a steep residential street

Situated on the south side of central Lisbon a few blocks from the Teja River leading into the bay, Casa do Bairro is located off of a steep, narrow street in a residential neighborhood where many buildings and doors are covered in graffiti. It's a five-minute walk to Chiado and tram 28. The neighborhood of Santos is less than a 10-minute walk away and is home to many restaurants, bars, and a McDonalds. Cais do Sodre and Bairro Alto are a 15-minute walk away. Lisbon Portela Airport is about 40 minutes away via tram and bus or less than 20 minutes by taxi.

Rooms

Bright, colorful, and modern rooms

There are only eight rooms at the Casa do Bairro and each has its own personality with colorful paintings, antique dressers, and charming night tables. Most rooms have a beautiful hanging light over the bed and some beds feature handmade quilts. The Family Room is large and lovely with one wall made of ancient stacked stone and a double balcony (not the walkout variety) looking out upon the neighborhood. This bathroom is huge and bright with dual sinks. All rooms have a private bathroom that is super modern with white basin sink and shower/tub combo. All rooms have a safe, hairdryer, flat-screen cable TV, and free Wi-Fi access.
