The hotel is welcoming and expansive, with a largely corporate vibe -- and clientele to match. Common areas weren't updated during the most recent batch of renovations in 2015, so they're a bit more dated than the rest of the property -- think red marble walls and brass fixtures in the lobby. An outdoor terrace, however, is lovely, with wicker seating and greenery. Multiple areas for business travelers to sit on their laptops or have quick meeting are convenient, but the staid atmosphere and removed setting from sights isn't particularly attractive for tourists. 

This hotel overlooks the attractive Eduardo VII Park. Though it doesn't have the most central location, it is within walking distance of several sights and neighborhoods. The beginning of Avenida da Liberdade is just a short walk away, and an upscale shopping center and a park are within walking distance. Many other sights are easily accessible (and not far away) via public transportation.

Lisbon, the capital of Portugal, is a beautiful, colorful city overlooking the Atlantic. Like Rome and San Francisco, Lisbon is a city built on seven hills; but it has an Athens-like vibe with whitewashed, red-roofed buildings, a fishing community, and laid-back people. Though many buildings were destroyed in the Great Earthquake of 1755, Lisbon still has a rich history (including historic buildings and cobblestone streets).

Originally referred to as the "eighth wonder of the world," Lisbon was a major importer of exotic goods from Europe and Asia. But nowadays, Lisbon can be overlooked due to the popularity of the quaint, seaside beach towns nearby. But those who love the city can tell visitors the many things they miss when skipping over Lisbon; it is a city of iconic historic buildings (such as St. George's Castle), extensive museums, and fabulous shopping -- particularly for gold, silver, and antiques.

Though quite generic, rooms are contemporary (renovated in 2015), with comfortable beds decked in white linens, dark-wood furniture, and accent tones of gray. Aside from the lowest-category rooms, units are fairly spacious by European standards. Views from the rooms, some of which come with private balconies, are generally good -- those staying in suites should request one with a view toward the bustling but beautiful Marques de Pombal. Given that those rooms look out toward a busy road, guests should keep windows closed to avoid noise. 

Like the rest of the room, bathrooms are fairly bland (beige and white tones), but they have up-to-date shower/tub combos or walk-in showers, hairdryers, and free toiletries. In-room free Wi-Fi signals are reliable, and safes are sized to be large enough for iPads. Minibars come stocked, but it's fine to store personal drinks in there as well. However, tea- and coffee-making facilities tend to vary from room to room, with some being fully stocked, some with a kettle, and some with nothing at all. 

One of the best parts about staying here is the excellent breakfast spread downstairs in the mornings, consisting of cava, fresh fruit, Portuguese treats, and some international options. Tables are cleaned and turned quickly, and the food is kept hot and topped up. Breakfast is included in some room rates. Past breakfast, taking advantage of the hotel's massive sun terrace for sun bathing or for a cocktail on summer nights from the lobby bar is a treat. There are multiple meeting facilities here that can accommodate small to medium meetings, seminars, and parties. 

Wi-Fi is free and available throughout the property. Covered parking is available on-site for a daily fee. Unfortunately, no fitness center is on-site.
