B&B Zuzabed

Tucked on a cobblestoned passageway with stone steps, ZUZABED & Breakfast B&B fits in well with its graffiti-marred surroundings. Inside, the hotel has a contrastingly fresh, modern feel. There's a living room area with beautiful wooden floors and crisp white walls along with a glass dining table and a retro-inspired desk with a computer where guests can access the Internet. A variety of books and magazines form the B&B’s book exchange, and a nearby couch provides a spot to relax and read. Hallways have fresh flowers in wall vases and a large world map where guests -- most of whom are budget travelers -- can mark their hometowns with pushpins. A guest book offers evidence of past guests’ memorable experiences.

The hotel is on a street with lots of steps, so guests should be prepared to walk. There are plenty of restaurants nearby, and Rossio Square is within a five-minute walk, making it an easy commute to most of the city. Bairro Alto -- a lively neighborhood known for its nightlife -- is within a 10-minute walk. The airport is a 25-minute drive away, and there’s also an airport shuttle pickup spot in the nearby Figueira Square.

Rooms at ZUZABED & Breakfast B&B are on the small side. The decor is airy and light, with a mix of white and pastel walls and pretty bedding. Fresh flowers, decanters filled with water, and free muesli bars are nice touches. All rooms have flat-screen TVs and Wi-Fi is free in rooms and throughout the hotel. Bathrooms are snug, with modern sinks and walk-in showers. Two of the rooms share a large, beautiful terrace with potted plants and chairs where guests can sit and take in the views of St. George’s Castle.

ZUZABED also has beautiful full apartments and villas available in both quiet and lively neighborhoods including Bairro Alto, Chiado, Principe Real, and Algarve. Apartments have modern decor and fully equipped kitchens. For two-night stays or longer, refrigerators are stocked with free breakfast food. Some units have outdoor spaces, and housekeeping staff come every other day to clean the apartments and villas.
