Bottom Line

This small, family-run property is a step above your typical budget-friendly hotel. It offers 12 clean studios and apartments with contemporary decor, flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, and fully-equipped kitchenettes, at a fraction of the price of central London hotels. There are no common areas, and it is not within walking distance of any major attractions, but there are four tube lines within a three-minute walk, making it a convenient base for exploring the city. Just note that two of the rooms share a bathroom, and that guests staying on the top floors will have to climb a couple of steep, narrow flights of stairs.

Scene

A small, budget- and family-friendly hotel

Housed in a refurbished Victorian building, this small, family-run hotel stands out for its value and family-friendly studios. The lobby is a tiny, elegant room with a desk, a few paintings, a bookcase, an armchair, and little else. Some of the original architectural details remain after renovations, including the ceiling moldings, and the steep narrow stairs (there is no elevator here), but the rest of the hotel -- namely the rooms, as there are no other common spaces -- is modern and stylish.

Location

On a quiet street a little out of the way of London's main attractions

Aviva is located in the Hammersmith area, a residential neighborhood in western London. There are no major attractions nearby -- except for the Eventim Apollo, a large entertainment venue -- but the Hammersmith tube station, served by four lines, is just a three-minute walk away. There are many restaurants and bars in the immediate neighborhood, and guests can walk to a couple of large shopping malls. Central London is a 15- to 20-minute tube ride away. This location is particularly convenient for those flying into or out of Heathrow, as the airport is on the same tube line as the hotel.

Rooms

Stylish and contemporary, with fully equipped kitchenettes and free Wi-Fi

The property offers a variety of room types, from single studios to family-friendly apartments. They all feature fairly stylish, contemporary decor in grey and white, and nice, clean bathrooms with showers and Eden toiletries. All rooms have a kitchenette equipped with either two hot plates or a full cooktop; an oven; a microwave; a toaster; an electric kettle; a mini-fridge; a sink; salt and pepper, and dish soap. The two cheapest rooms in the hotel share a bathroom. Great freebies, such as Wi-Fi, in-room coffee and tea, and use of international electric adaptors add value.

Features

The hotel does not have any common areas.

A tiny lobby with a small front desk is all there is in way of common spaces here. The hotel does not offer any of the standard services of larger hotels aside from daily housekeeping, free Wi-Fi, and 24-hour check-in service. Guests can print for a fee at reception.
