Bottom Line

The Best Western Victoria Palace is a three-pearl hotel located just south of Victoria Station in Pimlico, a quaint neighborhood close to the banks of the Thames River. It has 87 rooms, including suites, spread out over a main building and two annexes, which are just down the street. Rooms at the hotel do look a tad worn though, especially in the annex buildings, and there are no public spaces for guests to congregate. But the Best Western Victoria Palace has an undeniably great location, with great access to many notable sights, such as Westminster Cathedral and Buckingham Palace, along with museums, shops, and restaurants.

Best Western Victoria Palace

Scene

Modern spaces, but nothing too flashy

The hotel, from a design standpoint, is not too flashy. The reception area is bright and open, with reds, whites, wood, and tiles that work well with one another to open up the area. Rooms are basic, with plain white walls and patterned bedding, complete with wood furnishings that are a tad plain from a stylistic standpoint.

Location

A fantastic location, close to many notable sights

The hotel's location, just south of the Victoria tube, rail, and coach station, with transit access to Gatwick and Heathrow airports, is one of its finest features. Pimlico, the hotel's locale, has a great selection of shops, restaurants, and bars, and is also within walking distance of the neighborhood of Chelsea, one of London's most exclusive districts. It's also possible to walk to Buckingham Palace and Big Ben within 20 minutes.

Rooms

Well-stocked rooms, but try to book in the main building

Rooms at the Best Western Victoria Palace (in the main building at least) are well-adorned and well-stocked with modern amenities such as flat screen TVs, refurbished bathrooms, as well as free tea and instant coffee. There are also apartment-style rooms, with family rooms and kitchenettes. The rooms in the annex (which is just down the street) could use some attention -- they're smaller than those in the main building and show signs of wear and neglect.

Features

Not too many extras, for the price

The hotel is a little barebones when it comes to extra features. While there are some helpful extras such computer/printer access, this is overshadowed by the high cost of breakfast and the lack of public spaces. Free Wi-Fi is also available in the hotel and annex areas, but guests have complained about low bandwidth and problems with connecting.
