Bottom Line

The 265-room Euro Hotel Queens is convenient for travelers with work or other commitments in South London's Crystal Palace area, but it's far too removed from the center of London to make it appropriate for tourists. This run-down budget hotel has clean, simple rooms, some with good views of South London, but its biggest selling point is its low price tag. However, if you're on a shoestring budget, you can still find good deals much closer to town; the Clink78 Hostel, for example, has affordable private rooms and is much more convenient to London's sights.

Oyster Hotel Review

Best Western London Queens Crystal Palace Hotel

Scene

Pretty exteriors, simple interiors, and a seedy vibe

You get what you pay for at the Euro Hotel Queens: very little. This budget property in South London's Crystal Palace neighborhood receives negative reviews from most of its past guests. The cream-colored Victorian exterior appears pleasant enough, and there are a few red picnic tables with umbrellas out front. The lobby is simple, with floral-patterned carpeting, lots of aging leather seating, and a peacock painting. Previous guests have reported that the lobby is often filled with men just hanging out, chatting, and staring, and a number of female guests have reported feeling ill-at-ease while staying here.

Location

In a residential area, very far from the city center

The Euro Hotel Queens is located in a far-out suburb of South London, a 15-minute walk from the Crystal Palace overground railway station (transport zones 3 and 4). From the station, it takes about an hour to get to central London; buses are also available, but take just as long, or longer, depending on traffic. There's a Sainsbury's supermarket five minutes away by foot, and a couple of pubs and corner shops, but the area is otherwise residential, with a number of parks (including Westow Park) within walking distance.

Rooms

Basic rooms, some with great South London views

The rooms at the Euro Hotel Queens are basic and look a bit like typical British student housing. Decor includes light-wood wardrobes, plain beds with white sheets, colorful walls, and small, but modern, bathrooms with shower/tub combos and hairdryers. Rooms come with tea kettles, tea, and instant coffee, and those on higher floors have decent views of South London. Room types range from singles to triples that can accommodate three people.

Features

Wi-Fi for a fee in common areas, and on-site restaurant open at lunch and dinner

The amenities at the Euro Hotel Queens are fairly limited. Wi-Fi is available for a fee, but guests have complained of weak signals and that it's only accessible in a small part of the consistently crowded lobby. There's also a restaurant on-site that serves lunch and dinner, as well as a bar and a couple of vending machines with snacks and soft drinks.
