Bottom Line

There are 100 contemporary apartments in this four-pearl property set in London’s historic Tower Bridge area. There's plenty to see and do within a 10-minute walk, such as the Fashion and Textile Museum and London Dungeon. The apartments are spacious and trendy, with separate living rooms and full kitchens with dishwashers and washing machines. There's no air-conditioning but fans are available. On-site, there's a cafe, free Wi-Fi, and value car parking. Overall, it's a good option for those wanting apartment facilities in this area. Anyone wanting a traditional hotel set-up should check out the London Bridge Hotel, which is much closer to the train station and offers an elegant on-site restaurant.

Gate House Apartments, Tower Bridge

Scene

Stylish collection of buildings with a quirky history

The main property is a Grade II listed warehouse which was once the Sarsons vinegar factory. It's a charming brick-built Victorian building with arched black-framed windows. Surrounding this are a number of modern glass and steel buildings, and the apartments are spread throughout the different structures. The lobby is in one of the modern buildings and has a corporate feel to it. There's contemporary dark wood flooring and a wooden reception desk; a flat-screen TV is mounted on the wall. Many previous guests have found the building difficult to locate, as there is very little signage, so it’s worth looking up directions in advance. The hotel attracts a range of guests, from groups and families of tourists to business travelers, as well as people moving homes and looking for a short term rental.

The Gate House Apartments, Tower Bridge is located just off of the main road in the heart of Tower Bridge/Southwark, a former industrial area of London that’s been totally overhauled in recent years. The property is in a great location for getting out and exploring the city. Tower Bridge, City Hall, and the Unicorn Theater are all a five-minute walk away, and London Dungeon and HMS Belfast are a 10-minute walk. It's also an artsy area with plenty of creative things to see and do too -- the Fashion and Textile Museum, London Glassblowing, and the Underdog Art Gallery are all within a five-minute walk as well. The area has a huge array of pubs, bars, cafes, and restaurants, ranging from standard pizza chains to unusual options like an Argentine steakhouse, which is just a one-minute walk from the property. There's a mini-mart just across the street. London Bridge train and underground stations are around a 10-minute walk away, and Heathrow Airport is around an hour away by taxi depending on traffic.

Rooms

Contemporary and spacious apartments with free Wi-Fi and full kitchens

The property is a collection of trendy loft-style apartments with exposed brick walls, wooden flooring, and sleek modern furniture. Each one has large windows and is filled with natural light. Many also have original features that harken back to the building's history, like arched windows and rustic wooden beams in the ceiling. They are available as one- or two-bedroom apartments, and each one has free Wi-Fi, a flat-screen TV with satellite channels, a separate bedroom and lounge, and a full kitchen. The kitchen includes an oven, microwave, fridge freezer, dishwasher, washing machine, and a selection of crockery and cutlery. Previous guests have complained however, that dishwasher tablets and detergent are not provided. Towels and toiletries are provided, but maid service is only once a week, and there’s no air-conditioning, but fans are available. Many rooms have fantastic views of the Shard, but it’s worth noting that others overlook the train line behind the building, and the noise can be a nuisance.
