Bottom Line

Featuring only 29 rooms, this quaint-and-cozy boutique hotel offers an inviting, intimate experience in the middle of the posh residential neighborhood of Knightsbridge. As to be expected with a tiny boutique hotel, rooms lack extra space, but the decor is fresh and modern with neutral colors and the occasional designer-like touch (like stacked glass-ball lamps and pretty patterned wallpaper) -- though the random uninspired watercolor paintings feel a bit misplaced. Perhaps because of the surrounding area, rooms rates are here are above average despite the fact that rooms are missing some basic amenities (like a mini bar). But the free daily traditional English cream tea with homemade scones and the open bar in the evenings are definite perks.

The Beaufort Hotel

Scene

Charming, modern boutique-style hotel

From the interweaving Victorian hallways and cramped (but cute) traditional elevator, to the fresh, bright rooms and contemporary-styled sitting room, the Beaufort is simultaneously eccentric yet charming, traditional yet classy-modern.

While the watercolors peppered throughout the hotel give a nice uniformity and some of the pieces are pretty, those in the lobby (and in some of the rooms) have an odd, generic vibe and may remind you more of a dentist’s office than a chic London hotel. This is all by-the-by however, as boutique perks abound, the staff are good-hearted, and you’re sure to get a good dose of style and attitude when you step out into surrounding Knightsbridge. But when you do step out, remember how to find your way back -- the hotel lacks noticeable signage, and the neighboring buildings all look eerily the same.

Location

In the middle of affluent West London shopping and residential districts

Located in London's West End neighborhood, Knightsbridge is primarily an affluent residential and shopping area, populated by well-heeled locals, and Middle Eastern leisure and business guests. Home of some of London’s wealthiest residents (such as Chelsea Football Club owner Roman Abramovic), this is also the famed hangout spot for Middle Eastern "boy racers" who reportedly fly in their high-performance sports cars for the summer and spend their days and nights racing around the local streets.

The West End is where most of London's famed attractions can be found (Buckingham Palace, the Soho district, and Notting Hill to name a few). The area is unofficially bordered by the Thames to the south, Farringdon Road to the East, Marylebone Road to the north, and Hyde Park and Victoria Station to the west. A large assortment of hotels, shops, and restaurants are located around The West End, so the neighborhood is always buzzing.

  • 30-minute drive to Heathrow Airport
  • 2-minute walk to Beauchamp Place for local dining and shopping
  • 5-minute walk to Knightsbridge shopping district featuring designer shops and Harrod’s
  • 10-minute walk to Hyde Park
  • 12-minute walk to the Victoria and Albert Museum
  • 13-minute walk to the Natural History Museum
  • 13-minute walk to Sloane Square shopping district and Saatchi Art Gallery
  • 15-minute walk to the Science Museum
  • 6-minute drive to Buckingham Palace
  • 14-minute tube ride to Piccadilly circus and the theater district
  • 17-minute tube ride to Covent Garden
  • 20-minute bus ride to Notting Hill Gate and Portobello Market
  • 20-minute tube ride to Westminster Abbey, Big Ben, Houses of Parliament, London Eye, and scenic walks along the Thames
  • 22-minute tube ride to Trafalgar Square, National Portrait Gallery, London ICA, Tate Modern, and the Southbank

Rooms

Modern boutique rooms with contemporary furnishings but small on space

Space-wise, the rooms are what you'd expect for a boutique London hotel. Though tight on square footage, the rooms feel airy, and the floor plans are well executed (even the small Single rooms are able to fit a double bed, TV, writing desk, small dresser, and vanity area). Decor varies from room to room, but overall is clean and modern, with lovely watercolor paintings featured throughout. Bathrooms are refreshingly modern as well, though watch your elbows in the Single rooms -- the tiny one-person showers leave little room to spare.

  • Free Wi-Fi
  • Flat-screen TVs with Satellite TV
  • Beautiful modern bathrooms with shower/tub combos in all but Single rooms
  • Crabtree & Evelyn toiletries
  • Free bottled water, cookies, and chocolates in room at check-in
  • CD clock radio
  • Small stand-up showers in Single rooms
  • Upgrade to a suite for more room, a shower/tub combo, and a terrace
