Bottom Line

There are 77 guest rooms at this mid-range property in London’s leafy Putney neighborhood. It’s a quiet and attractive suburban area, with plenty of local shops, cafes, and riverside restaurants within a short walk. Access to central London is fairly easy, though, as the nearest underground station is within a five-minute walk. Guest rooms are contemporary and have coffeemakers, flat-screen TVs, and free Wi-Fi. There’s also an excellent restaurant and bar on-site, and free parking, which is hard to come by in London. It's worth comparing with the
nearby Alma Hotel, which offers a free made-to-order breakfast.

The Lodge Hotel, Putney

Scene

A contemporary hotel in converted Victorian mansions

The property is set within two converted Victorian mansions and former coach stables. In 2015, a new, modern wing was built, but all in all this is a thoroughly contemporary property. The hotel has blended old and new by keeping some original features and juxtaposing them with modern design and upscale features. The
lobby has a trendy feel created by its cool gray and teal color scheme along fashionable furniture like a silver velvet Chesterfield sofa. Many of the corridors have exposed brick walls and skylights letting in natural light. The hotel is geared toward corporate clients, which make up the majority of the guests. But it's also a great place for anyone wanting to be in a quiet part of London with reasonably easy access to the city center. The hotel is also pet friendly and can
accommodate dogs.

Location

In leafy Putney, a five-minute walk from the underground

The hotel is located on a relatively busy South West London street in the residential Putney neighborhood. Putney is a leafy suburb, with tree-lined streets and a host of charming local shops and cafes to explore. The banks of the River Thames are a 10- to 15-minute walk from the hotel, where there are many excellent riverside restaurants and bars. The area also has some of the best green spaces in London -- Wandsworth Park is just a 10-minute walk from the hotel. Seeing the major London sights, though, will require a cab or tube ride. The hotel is just a five-minute walk from East Putney Underground station. From there, getting into central London is a 20-minute journey, and the City of London financial district takes around 30 minutes to reach. Heathrow International Airport is 30 minutes to an hour away by cab depending on traffic, or 45 minutes by using the tube and train. Gatwick Airport is a 50-minute journey by combining the bus and the train.

Rooms

Modern guest rooms with coffeemakers and rainfall showers

The hotel’s 77 guest rooms embrace the property’s contemporary aesthetic, and are especially sharp when compared to many other neighboring properties, which aren't always that up-to-date. Utilizing the hotel's historic architecture to its advantage, some rooms have vaulted ceilings with exposed wooden beams.
Several categories and room configurations are available, including Family Rooms that can sleep four. All rooms have flat-screen
TVs with satellite channels, luxury bed linens, desks, free Wi-Fi, and coffeemakers. Some, but not all, have air-conditioning. The modern bathrooms are tiled in natural stone colors, and have rainfall showerheads, contemporary fixtures and fittings, toiletries, and a hairdryer. Most have a shower/tub combo. Some guests have noted noise from neighboring rooms or the street outside as issues.
