The Westin Long Beach

Westin Long Beach is an upscale hotel with sophisticated contemporary decor. The lobby is bright and airy due to high ceilings and large wall-to-wall windows providing lovely views of palm trees and tropical plants that grace the exterior of the hotel. Potted plants can be found throughout the property, giving the hotel a tropical vibe. A variety of seating areas with couches and chairs are dotted around the spacious lobby and illuminated by the walls of windows. The restaurant has a similar sophisticated look, with wooden tables and dark wooden chairs, striped neutral carpets, and a slated canopy. Due to its amenities and location across from the convention center, clientele is an overwhelmingly corporate crowd, with lots of business travelers utilizing the hotel’s meeting spaces and services. 

The Westin Long Beach is in a convenient location in downtown Long Beach for both business travelers and tourists. The Long Beach Convention Center is right across the street, while the beach can be reached in 10 minutes on foot. Other nearby attractions that are within walking distance include the Aquarium of the Pacific (a 15-minute walk) and the Pike Outlets (a nine-minute walk). The Queen Mary is an eight-minute drive away. There are a number of dining options on surrounding streets and on Shoreline Drive (a 13-minute walk), for those seeking a restaurant with an ocean view. Several bus lines stop right by the hotel, while the 1st Street Station servicing the Metro Blue Line is a three-minute walk away. Los Angeles International Airport is a 30-minute drive. 

The hotel’s 469 rooms are decorated in a warm, contemporary style with a largely neutral color palette. Dark wood furnishings and handsome wooden headboards are paired with crisp, white linens and sleek work desks. Chic mirrors above the desks and cream-colored plush armchairs give the spaces a decorative edge. Rooms have either ocean or city views and include flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, coffeemakers with Starbucks coffee, and bottled water for a fee. Suites have separate living rooms and some come in the form of a two-floor loft. Bathrooms are sleek with spacious granite-topped vanities, illuminated vanity mirrors, and shower/tub combos, though suites often come with whirlpool tubs. Toiletries and hairdryers are also provided. Many guests have noted that early morning showers remain cold and do not heat up. Complaints have also been made about maintenance and cleanliness issues.

True to its upscale nature, Westin Long Beach has a rooftop deck with a heated pool, hot tub, and lounge chairs that was renovated in 2015, as was the 24-hour fitness center stocked with multiple cardio machines with TVs and free weights. The hotel’s signature restaurant, The Grill, serves American dishes throughout the day, including a breakfast buffet, though it’s not included in all room rates. A Lobby Bar serves a variety of alcoholic drinks in a laid-back setting. There’s 24-hour room service and a convenience store that sells snacks, drinks, and apparel. 

Business travelers are well catered for with over 32,000 square feet of fully equipped meeting facilities and event spaces, as well as the largest ballroom in downtown Long Beach (and the only one with access to an outdoor terrace). There’s a 24-hour business center with two computers and a printer, plus Wi-Fi is free in the lobby, though it incurs an extra fee for in-room use -- and complaints have been made concerning its connectivity. A Budget car rental service in the lobby of the hotel is a convenient perk. Both self and valet parking incur daily fees, which isn’t out of the ordinary for most hotels in the area.
