Bottom Line

Los Angeles Airport Marriott underwent a $44 million renovation in 2018 that brought fresh and contemporary interiors to this upper-middle-range chain hotel. The hotel is a three-minute drive (or free shuttle ride) from LAX so it's mostly popular with those in transit, but business travelers appreciate the 55,000 square feet of event space. The 10004 rooms also have a contemporary look and large windows let in lots of light; some have balconies and/or pool views. MClub Rooms upgrade to free lounge access and food presentations. Resort-style features include a lovely outdoor pool, full gym, Starbucks, and three eateries/bars. For a beach hotel, check rates at the JW Marriott Santa Monica Le Merigot.

Los Angeles Airport Marriott

Scene

Renovated, massive, and contemporary airport hotel by Marriott

It's difficult to tell just how large this Marriott is from the entrance, which is flanked by enormous parking lots. But it holds over 1,000 guest rooms, a resort-style outdoor pool, four dining outlets, and 55,000 square feet of event space. Essentially, everything you'd need if you were on an overnight layover and didn't want to leave the hotel. The whole thing went through a major $44 million renovation in 2018, so it's bright, fresh, and contemporary. The lobby features a white and gray color palette. There's a large seating area with couches, armchairs, and built-in outlets. A glass gas fireplace adds ambience and the adjacent Starbucks provides caffeine. Most of the travelers are on an overnight (and even unexpected) layover, though this chain is also popular with business travelers in town for events both on and off property.

Location

Three-minute drive to LAX and six minutes to In-N-Out Burger

As its name suggests, The Westin Los Angeles Airport is a convenient three-minute drive from the terminals at LAX. The hotel offers a free shuttle to the airport several times an hour. There's little else of interest in the immediate neighborhood, apart from a few dining options. The closest In-N-Out Burger is a six-minute drive. The 405 and 101 freeways are close by for access to the greater Los Angeles area including the beaches (about 25 minutes to Marina del Rey) and Hollywood tourist destinations (about 40 minutes to Hollywood). Hertz rental car service is available on-site for guests that may want to circumvent the usual airport rental car procedures.

Rooms

Contemporary rooms with large windows and flat-screen TVs

The rooms and suites were part of the hotel's massive renovation, so they're just as bright and contemporary as the hotel's public areas. One King or Two Double Guest Rooms are the entry level categories. They feature a soothing color palette, patterned accent wallpaper, and plush carpets. Blackout drapes cover the floor-to-ceiling windows. Features include free Wi-Fi, a flat-screen TV, air-conditioning, telephone, coffeemaker, iron, ironing board, and mini-fridge. Pool views cost extra. Bathrooms feature a fun graphic print wallpaper, plus a shower/tub combo and large vanity. Toiletries and hairdryers are provided. Upgrading to a ClubM room buys access to a private lounge with free snack and drink presentations, plus views of the runway at LAX. There's also a massive Presidential Suite with multiple bedrooms and living room/dining areas for events or high rollers.

Features

Resort-style features include an outdoor pool, Starbucks, steakhouse, and a full fitness center

Features are impressive and competitive with what you'll find at a resort. There's a large outdoor pool and sun deck; guests can order food and drinks to their sun loungers. A whirlpool is on hand as well. The adjacent fitness center includes modern cardio and strength-training equipment; it was renovated at the end of 2018. For dining, there are four distinct outlets: a full Starbucks, JW's Steakhouse (for dinner), all-day dining at Hangar 18 Bar + Kitchen, and Californian cuisine at Social Market & Eatery (for breakfast and dinner). Room service is available take-out style -- as in your items will be delivered in to-go bags with disposable cutlery.

Both valet parking and self-parking are available for a fee. The lobby holds a large gift shop that sells everything from snacks and cold drinks to souvenir sweatshirts and gifts. Wi-Fi is free throughout the property. A free shuttle runs to and from LAX 24/7. For events, the hotel has over 55,000 square feet of space.
