Motel 6 Los Angeles – Hollywood

The hotel has a simple, budget feel, consistent with the standards of the Motel 6 chain, but the public spaces have a colorful contemporary look that adds a dash of vitality. The lobby sitting area features an orange ceiling and black vinyl armchairs and sofas, and the reception area has colorful light fixtures and a wall of plants. A small guest area offers free coffee, but gathering areas in the hotel are limited, so guests are generally out and about seeing the nearby sights. With its location near the Hollywood Walk of Fame, the TCL Chinese Theatre, and Hollywood & Highland shopping complex, the hotel is a good choice for movie fans and shoppers. Kids under 17 stay free, so the hotel is also a decent option for families with children. The immediate area is a bit seedy at night. 

The Motel 6 is in Hollywood just west of US-101, a one-minute walk from the Hollywood/Whitley bus stop and Hollywood Boulevard with its restaurants, bars, shops, and Hollywood Walk of Fame stars embedded in the sidewalk. The surrounding area is not unsafe, but it’s a bit seedy, as it has transients gathering at night. The area with the Hollywood/Highland metro station (Red Line), huge Hollywood & Highland shopping complex (its center features great views of the iconic Hollywood sign), and TCL (formerly Mann’s) Chinese Theatre with its movie star handprints is a little less than a five-minute bus ride or a little less than a 10-minute walk. Also in that area are the Hollywood Museum, Hollywood Pantages Theatre, Dolby Theatre (home of the Oscars), and Madame Tussaud’s. The area with the Hollywood Bowl and John Anson Ford Amphitheatre is a little more than a five-minute drive, a little under 15 minutes by bus, or a 20-minute walk. Los Angeles International Airport is about an hour by car from the Motel 6, or a little less than an hour-and-a-half by a combination of metro from Hollywood/Highland and LAX FlyAway bus from Union Station. Drive times vary wildly depending on traffic. 

Rooms at the Motel 6 Los Angeles - Hollywood have a simple, cheap chic contemporary look, with IKEA-style furniture and laminate hardwood floors. Rooms really rock the color: curtains are red, walls are orange, and salmon-pink decorative throws top the all-white bedding. Unlike many rooms at hotels in this category, the rooms here are spacious, clean, and in good condition. All 125 units come with flat-screen TVs with expanded cable, air-conditioning, free local calls, mini-fridges, and free Wi-Fi. Rooms do not have coffee/tea makers, but free morning coffee is served in the lobby. Suites with sitting areas are available. Bathrooms are well lighted and have a contemporary look, with distinctive round wash basins and stainless steel faucets. All have combination bathtubs/showers, and hairdryers are available upon request. Bar soap is provided. One pet per room, 50 pounds or under, is allowed for no fee. 

Some previous guests have complained of marijuana odors in the rooms and in the hallways. In addition, noise is sometimes an issue from the street, hallways, and neighboring rooms through the thin walls.

This Motel 6 has limited facilities. A coin-operated laundry room is on-site, and the hotel also has a small guest sitting area with vending machines, a microwave, ATM, and free morning coffee from a machine. There is no breakfast buffet or restaurant, but several restaurants are within a short walk of the hotel. The front desk is open 24 hours a day and free Wi-Fi is available throughout the hotel. The hotel also offers a shuttle (for a fee) to destinations like Beverly Hills, West Los Angeles, and Los Angeles International Airport. On-site parking (limited space, first come first served) is available for a fee, and there’s also a nearby public parking lot (for a fee) and metered street parking.
