Palihouse West Hollywood

From the exterior, the three-story Palihouse looks like a very expensive and well designed apartment building. Black window shutters and uniform flower boxes look more like private residences than hotel rooms. And truly, that's not far from what it is. The suites are designed to mimic urban apartments, and the common spaces focus on food and design. Guests enter the hotel down a short flight of stairs and land in a beautifully decorated space that's technically a basement (though there are large windows and a semi-outdoor courtyard, so it's a bright and well-lit space. Next to the reception desk is a cozy and stylish little library area with a wall of books and curious, plus a soft blue sofa. On the opposite end, there's far more space to spread out and have a cocktail, coffee, or meeting. Design is equally dedicated, with clusters of Mid-Century Modern furniture and a brick faux-fireplace underneath a huge drawing of a bicycle. Guests are generally hip couples and business travelers who appreciate the apartment-style suites and club house-like atmosphere. Note that the restaurants are often rented out to private events and can get quite crowded and noisy. 

The Palihouse is located on a quiet block of Holloway Drive in West Hollywood, and it's within easy reach of several design stores and restaurants. Just up the hill is the world famous Sunset Strip, known for its famed music clubs like the House of Blues, the Roxy, Viper Room, and Whisky A Go-Go. Just down the hill is Santa Monica Boulevard, a main artery that leads all the way to the beach in Santa Monica.

The 37 suites are impeccably designed and outfitted to mimic swank urban apartments. Each has a hip and contemporary aesthetic with clean lines and brick accent walls. Framed sketches rest on wooden headboards and books are tucked into the nightstands. Each unit comes with a full kitchen (stovetop, fridge, microwave, toaster, blender, espresso machine, paper towels, and dishes) and a washing machine/dryer. The suites range in configuration from 600-square-foot studios to one- or two-bedroom layouts at up to 900-square-feet. Marble bathrooms feature walk-in rain showers and toiletries. Some of the suites have private outdoor terraces.  

Features at Palihouse focus around food and cocktails. Up on the roof, The Rooftop is furnished with loads of plants, cushioned sofas, and white-fringed umbrellas. There are views of the Hollywood Hills and a full bar for cocktails. Downstairs, Mardi is the all-day restaurant for breakfast, weekend brunch, lunch, and dinner. It has a courtyard area and awnings and umbrellas for shade. The menu is mostly Californian cuisine with homages to the city's multiethnic heritages. The adjacent Lobby Lounge offers specialty coffees and cocktails. There's also a cozy and stylish private dining room. Note that all of these spaces are regularly rented out for events and private parties. Wi-Fi is free throughout the property. Valet parking is available for an extra cost. Dogs are welcome.
