Bottom Line

The 27-room Rodeway Inn is a straightforward budget motel in the heart of Hollywood. It's just a short walk from the Chinese Theater, the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and other Hollywood Boulevard attractions, but the neighborhood can feel seedy. Rooms are moderately sized, bright, and clean, though the furniture is obviously not new. The motel has a small pool, (a somewhat meager) free continental breakfast, and free Wi-Fi.

Rodeway Inn Hollywood

Scene

Budget-friendly property with unattractive exteriors and pleasant interiors

The Rodeway Inn Hollywood is a no-frills motel popular with budget travelers. While the building is rather old, the motel has made efforts to give a modern edge to its interiors. The blue-gray lobby has two kinds of accent paneling along the bottom part on the walls and there's a cabinet that doubles as a buffet table where a meager (but free) morning breakfast and all-day coffee are served. Some panels feature a shaved-wood kind of design, while others have leaves on them. While the combination is a little disjointed, it successfully makes the room less drab. The only other common space is the pool area. The pool is small and gets no deeper than five feet, but there's a patio table with a few chairs where a guests can congregate.

Location

In an unattractive part of Hollywood, not far from major sights

The Rodeway Inn Hollywood is convenient to many of Hollywood's sights, and is less than a 10-minute stroll from the Walk of Fame and the Chinese Theater. That said, the blocks right around the hotel are not the friendliest, particularly after dark, and there are a lot of homeless people in the area. The neighborhood also has a lot of restaurants and fast-food joints, including an In-N-Out Burger and IHOP. The Hollywood/Highland metro stop is a few minutes' walk away. The airport is a 40-minute drive away without traffic.

Rooms

Moderately sized, bright, and clean rooms with free Wi-Fi but thin walls

The Rodeway Inn Hollywood has clearly made efforts to spruce up and modernize its rooms. Bright-green and yellow bedding and green patterned rugs liven up the rooms, while dark-wood headboards and furniture offer a classic, modern touch (although it's apparent that the furnishings are not of the highest quality). The only pieces that don't feel fresh are the wood-framed desk chairs upholstered with worn red fabric, which are reminiscent of the kind of chairs found in libraries. Most of the furniture has nicks and dents, but everything is in functional condition. Rooms come with microwaves, mini-fridges, coffeemakers, flat-screen TVs, and free Wi-Fi. Bathrooms are petite, but clean, save for some calcium deposits on the showerheads. Open-air hallways can lead to noise problems, particularly in the evening time, and past guests have complained about street noise and sounds from neighboring rooms.

Features

A small pool, free continental breakfast, and free Wi-Fi

While basic in its offerings, the hotel does offer a free continental breakfast and has coffee available throughout the day. There's also a small, but shallow pool, and Wi-Fi is free throughout the facility. The hotel also has free parking, but the lot is small and spillover is sent to the hotel next door.
