Bottom Line

The Trylon Hotel is a simple budget hotel in Hollywood, a 15-minute walk from most of the area's main attractions.  With an interesting mix of modern and regal (but in our opinion, a bit gaudy) aesthetics, the hotel provides a simple, comfortable place to stay. The rooms are clean and well-decorated, if a little on the small side, and Wi-Fi is free throughout. Parking is available at a gas station across the street, but the hotel lacks amenities such as a pool and free breakfast. The nearby Hotel Hollywood offers free breakfast and has microwaves in rooms.

Trylon Hotel

Scene

A funky mix of regal and modern styles makes this budget hotel unique, if a bit bizarre.

While the outside of the Trylon is plain and dated, the inside is much more welcoming and comfortable, incorporating a funky mix of regal and modern styles. The reception desk is cased in marble and next to it hangs a large, ornate gold mirror. Heavy red and gold drapery add to the stately look, in sharp contrast to simple and modern black leather chairs. The stairs and halls are uninspiring. A trodden green carpet with a yellow diamond pattern leads to metal guest room doors and there are a few gold mirrors in the halls. The hotel has a simple stone courtyard at its entrance, with potted plants and shrubbery, that provides a pleasant contrast to the surrounding cityscape.

Location

In Hollywood, a short drive from the neighborhood's attractions

The Trylon Hotel is in Hollywood, a 15-minute walk or a five-minute drive to sights such as the Dolby Theater, Chinese Theater, and Walk of Fame. The area around the hotel is not upscale, but generally safe, and there are coffee shops, stores, and restaurants within walking distance. Los Angeles International Airport is a 40-minute drive away barring traffic, while the Bob Hope Airport in Burbank takes around 20 minutes without traffic.

Rooms

Simple, clean, and modern -- if a little small

The rooms at the Trylon are simple, sparse, and clean. The blonde hardwood floors offer a nice contrast to  black headboards and bedside tables. The rooms are a little on the small side, with no seating space, but they do come with flat-screen TVs, coffeemakers, and mini-fridges. While the dark tones and simple design of the bedrooms are distinctively modern, the bathrooms combine this aesthetic with ornate trimmings, such as a curving plaster tile incorporated into simple nude wall tiles. There are Single and Double Rooms, and a Family Room with two queen bedrooms connected through a bathroom is also available.
