Bottom Line

The Royal Decameron Los Cabos is a mid-range all-inclusive beachfront resort for travelers looking to party day and night. This lively adults-only property is the most boisterous resort along this stretch of coastline, especially when compared to the calm Hyatt Ziva Los Cabos right next door. You'll find a boozy pool area with swim-up bar, theater, several bars, a nightclub, and decent rooms here, all making this a decent value. Upgrades to the all-inclusive plus plan will score you premium drinks and access to the rooftop pool. They also mean you won't have to bother with reservations at the Royal Decameron's a la carte restaurants. If you're after something a little more sedate, the Cabo Azul Resort and Reflect Krystal Grand Los Cabos are both similarly priced, more stylish alternatives with calmer vibes.

Royal Decameron Los Cabos

Scene

Lively all-inclusive resort with plenty of boozy fun for adults traveling on a budget

With nine bars, a nightclub, nightly shows, and a steady stream of drinks fueling the poolside fun, Royal Decameron Los Cabos is one of the least sedate properties in the San Jose del Cabo's Hotel Zone. It also has some of the lowest rates along this stretch of coast, especially considering that food and drink are included in all stays. That free-flowing cocktails certainly fuel a vibe that's loose and easy, with bumpin' music throughout most of the day, and lively shows in the evenings. The Royal Decameron only allows guests over the age of 18, and it's squarely on the radar of the Spring Break set -- so be warned if you're traveling in the months of February to April. Interiors are pleasant, if not exactly contemporary, but that seems to bother no one, as most guests here gather around the pool or post up on the beach for much of the day. Is it the most relaxing place to stay? Not at all. But if you're hoping to let your hair down, get some sun, and not break the bank, the Royal Decameron Los Cabos can be a good value for the money. If you're seeking tranquil vibes, though, look elsewhere.

Location

Royal Decameron Los Cabos sits right on the beach outside of San Jose del Cabo

To be honest, few travelers care much about where, precisely, this hotel is located -- most choose to shuttle in from the airport and stay on-site for the duration of their visit, taking advantage of their cheap all-inclusive packages. Royal Decameron Los Cabos is right on the beach in the San Jose del Cabo Hotel Zone. It's a pretty setting, and there's beach seating, but like most spots in Los Cabos, you can't swim in the ocean here because the currents and surf are too rough. Other resorts line the beach in both directions, and there are some tourist shops and cute restaurants across the road from the property. A massive supermarket is within a five-minute walk should you need any sundries. If you've chosen to rent a car, there's a lot to see in the region. Budget 10 minutes to reach the charming center of San Jose by car -- it's worth it especially for the Thursday night Art Walks. Budget around 70 minutes to reach the artsy town of Todos Santos, and about 30 minutes to buzzing Cabo San Lucas. SJD Airport takes around 25 minutes to reach by car from Royal Decameron Los Cabos.

Rooms

Pleasant rooms with pool views and most featuring balconies, though parties and shows mean some are loud

During our 2018 visit, it was a rare guest at the Royal Decameron Los Cabos that seemed to be spending time in their rooms -- in fact, the pools were ringed with packed loungers from early in the morning. However, that doesn't mean things aren't pleasant indoors as well. Rooms are relatively modern, with a mix of neutrals, dark hues, and bolder prints, and all but six have balconies that overlook the pools. Some have views to the ocean. If you're seeking quiet, stay at the back of the resort, in the rooms farthest from the beach and pools (though, to be fair, evening shows here aren't on the quiet side and the daytime vibe around the pools is lit). All rooms include minibars with beer and soda, air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, and coffeemakers. Wi-Fi is free, but safes will cost extra unless you're on the all-inclusive plus plan. Bathrooms have showers, as well as generous counter space, and basic toiletries are provided.

Features

Two levels of Royal Decameron all-inclusive plans, plus pools, nine bars, entertainment, and beach seating

Features are fairly numerous at this compact resort. The Royal Decameron Los Cabos has a main pool as well as a rooftop pool that's reserved for all-inclusive plus guests. Pools have swim-up bars and poolside service, and there's always a buzz around them, whether from beer pong matches, water volleyball, or other games and entertainment.

Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are served on-site either as a buffet or a la carte. All meals are included in nightly rates, though all-inclusive plus guests don't need to make reservations at the a la carte Mediterranean restaurant. The a la carte breakfast is also only reserved for all-inclusive plus guests. Buffets for everyone come themed in the evenings, and the resort rotates through seven different themes during the week. Food generally scores good marks, and there's everything from Mexican to Italian on offer.

The evening shows also rotate throughout the week, with singers and dancers. During the day, upbeat music plays around the pools and the staff try to get guests involved in activities. The combination of daytime and evening entertainment means things are rarely quiet. The nightclub at the Royal Decameron Los Cabos is open every night, and is exclusively for the use of hotel guests.

If you'd prefer to unwind in other fashions, the Royal Decameron Los Cabos has a spa for massages and treatments, as well as a gym that has a range of cardio and weight-training equipment. The beach here is lined with a handful of loungers, though you can't swim in the ocean (which is common in Cabo due to rough surf). Massages are also available on the beach. Airport shuttles can be arranged for a fee. Wi-Fi is free throughout the resort.
