Bottom Line

This 68-room budget property has a mostly contemporary look and some free extras, but few on-site amenities, making it a convenient pick for a quick stopover near New Orleans’ airport. Modest rooms are clean and offer comfortable beds with extra pillows, plus mini-fridges, microwaves, coffeemakers, and flat-screen TVs, though some furnishings are dated. There are a free continental breakfast buffet, a fitness room, and a business center, but the lack of a pool is disappointing given the heat typical of the area. For a property with a bit more polish and a saltwater pool, check out Crowne Plaza New Orleans Airport.

Scene

Modest, budget-friendly hotel with a good range of free amenities

A mostly contemporary style and free extras make this hotel a good value for the price. The building exterior is typical of a Comfort Inn, sitting in a narrow parking lot between two commercial businesses. There are a few plants and flowers to add cheer to the environment, but it's mostly utilitarian. Inside, the lobby has a warm, welcoming vibe, sporting a neutral color scheme with pops of vibrant color, mostly in blue and red. The reception area has a few sofas and chairs, beyond which are the elevators, followed by the breakfast room. Guest rooms split off into two wings of the building down interior hallways. Couples and families are drawn here for the convenient location and amenities for the price when making a quick stopover near the airport.

Location

Close to the airport, but a 30-minute drive to sites

Comfort Inn New Orleans Airport is in St. Rose, a suburb west of New Orleans on the northern bank of the Mississippi River. It's a four-minute drive from Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport, but there’s little else nearby beyond commercial buildings and residences. There are a few chain and fast-food restaurants within a 15-minute walk of the hotel, plus a well-reviewed barbecue place (VooDoo BBQ & Grill St. Rose) a four-minute walk away. The New Orleans Museum of Art is a 20-minute drive away, and worth a visit for the huge collection of historic artwork from around the world. The famous French Market is a 25- to 30-minute drive from the hotel, as is parking for the historic French Quarter of the city and all of its restaurants, museums, and sites.

Rooms

Contemporary, if simple, design, plus microwaves and coffeemakers

As expected for a budget Comfort Inn, rooms here are simple and generic, though offer a good range of amenities. Red carpets against ivory walls sets the tone for the room, which incorporates red touches into a mostly chain-like design. Beds have comfortable white linens and red runners, and there are a few touches of burgundy in geometric-themed artwork. Mismatched wood furniture is of a medium to low quality, but everything is clean and neat. Upgraded rooms include Suites with sitting areas divided from the bedrooms by partial walls. Standard amenities include flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, microwaves, coffeemakers, and irons. Safes are not provided. Marble countertops, beige tiling, and mint-green walls give the bathrooms an attractive look. They're outfitted with curtained shower/tub combos, hairdryers, and free toiletries consisting of soap, shampoo, and lotion.

Features

Free continental breakfast, tiny fitness room, and free Wi-Fi

The range of extras offered here make a quick stay more comfortable and convenient, but do not include entertainment or a pool. The free breakfast is adequate and has a typical continental selection, plus a waffle iron. It's served in a pleasant, generic space. The tiny fitness room offers a weight-training machine and a couple of cardio machines. Meeting space is also small, but suitable for groups under 10 people. A business center and free Wi-Fi appeal to working travelers. Coin-operated laundry and vending machines are also on-site. Freebies include airport transportation, weekday newspapers, hot coffee, and parking.
