Bottom Line

The mid-range Ameron Hotel Flora Luzern is a modern property in central Lucerne, just a few minutes from the lake. Its 161 rooms are cozy with flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, espresso-makers, and mini-fridges, but they lack storage space. There's an upscale restaurant, bar, and meeting facilities but there's no pool or on-site fitness center, although discounts are available at a nearby gym. On the down side, breakfast comes with a fee, and some guests have reported problems with the air-conditioning and Wi-Fi. The Radisson Blu Hotel, Lucerne, with an on-site gym, sauna, and trendy dining options, is a good alternative.

Ameron Luzern Hotel Flora

Scene

Modern hotel with sleek and rustic elements in a busy area

Ameron Hotel Flora Luzern stands out as a modern, glass-and-stone building on a busy central street full of more traditional architecture. Partially renovated in 2015, the property gives a fresh, urban take on rustic decor. Reception is rather minimalist with a black front desk and jet-black curtains set off by a strip of neon purple lighting. Off to one side, there's a small shop selling snacks and drinks. Beyond that, a chic sitting area ramps up the decorative flair with an electric fireplace, molded gray chairs, and drum pendant lights. Cheeky rustic elements abound like an accent wall of stacked firewood, a stag skull, large tree trunks for sitting, and animal-hide rugs. Hallways are filled with large black-and-white countryside photographs, continuing the theme. The restaurant has a warmer and more romantic design with red elements in booths and pillows, soft purple walls, and trendy art pieces or framed photographs. The wooden tables and some of the booths are looking a bit worn, but the hotel has plans to renovate this space in the near future. Overall, it’s a well-designed hotel that attracts couples and families to its central location. Note that there have been complaints concerning difficulties checking in.

Rooms

Modern rooms with flat-screen TVs, espresso-makers, and mini-fridges

The 161 guest rooms are split between renovated and unrenovated. Older, unrenovated rooms have an earthy, burnt orange color scheme and strips of wall art of grazing cows. Though these are dated compared with other rooms, they’re well-kept. Newer rooms, updated in 2015, have a cooler palette of grays, blues, and lime-green accents. Black leathery headboards, dark wood flooring, and sleek black-and-white photos of cows give it more urban edge. On the whole, rooms run small with little storage space -- no closets or drawers. Amenities include flat-screen TVs, espresso-makers, free Wi-Fi, mini-fridges with water bottles, and air-conditioning, though guests have complained that the AC doesn't run cool enough. Another complain is that the Wi-Fi speed is slow -- some report difficulty logging on. Comfort Rooms have minibars, while Premium Rooms have free minibars and balconies with outdoor seating. Bathrooms are sleek with showers or shower/tub combos, hairdryers, and toiletries in wall dispensers.
