Hotel Gatsby by HappyCulture

Hotel Gatsby by HappyCulture is primarily a business hotel for travelers attending events at the nearby Eurexpo convention center. It’s a stylish and relatively quiet place with a Roaring Twenties theme, and midcentury modern touches to balance out the otherwise glitzy decor. A pair of black-and-white area rugs define two lounge areas in the attractive lobby, with navy velour sofas, distressed leather armchairs, and open shelving with hardcover books. The Gatsby restaurant has outdoor seating and is equally hip, with a bar holding a roulette wheel, and there's even a one-lane bowling alley with neon bowling balls for blowing off steam after a day of meetings.

The hotel is located in an industrial area, roughly a three-minute drive to the Eurexpo convention center center. A few restaurants are within five minutes on foot, but there's little else within walking distance except for a few other other hotels. Lyon-Bron Airport is also three minutes by car, and Lyon-Saint Exupery Airport is roughly a 15-minute drive. It's only a seven-minute drive to the small town of Genas, and roughly 25 minutes by car to reach Lyon's city center. 

Some of the guest rooms at Hotel Gatsby by HappyCulture have a contemporary chain-hotel look, whereas others are more modern and stylish. Decor ranges from bland white walls and linens, brown-patterned carpet, and solid beige drapes to attractive units that have higher-quality wooden furniture and bright orange accents.  

All rooms benefit from high ceilings and large windows that let in cheerful natural light. Larger rooms and suites are available, including Family Rooms with twin beds separated from double beds by sliding privacy doors. Standard amenities include flat-screen TVs, coffeemakers, and free bottled water and Wi-Fi, but mini-fridges and safes are missing. Suites add Nespresso machines. Bathrooms are basic and spacious enough, with laminate wood vanities, shower/tub combos, magnifying mirrors, and L’Occitane toiletries. The rooms are relatively quiet, but views of the surrounding industrial area are unremarkable. 

Hotel Gatsby by HappyCulture offers an attractive amenities packages that makes for a comfortable stay. The Gatsby Restaurant has outdoor seating and serves a daily hot breakfast buffet for an extra charge. Lunch and dinner menus are seasonal, and dishes are made with local produce. The bar and lounge is full of fun things to do, including a roulette wheel, pool table, and a one-lane bowling alley, and there's foosball and ping pong tables under a covered patio next to the hotel's spacious outdoor pool. There's also a fitness area on-site, but it's cramped and sparsely equipped with just three pieces of cardio equipment – a treadmill, elliptical, and stationary bicycle. Other amenities include a business center with two computers and a printer, eight meeting rooms that can accommodate up to 180 people, valet dry cleaning and laundry, concierge and room service, and free on-site parking and Wi-Fi throughout. The hotel runs an airport shuttle for a reasonable additional fee, and pets are welcome with a surcharge and some restrictions.
