Bottom Line

The Petit Palace Avenida Gran Via is a mid-range hotel in a very central location. Updated rooms feature flat-screen TVs, stocked minibars, free Wi-Fi, and hydro massage showers. Family rooms with bunk beds make this hotel a good pick for groups or families. Nice touches include wood floors and work desks, but some guests complain about thin walls and signs of wear and tear. With a decent breakfast, free loaner bicycles, and in-room PCs available upon request, this is a solid pick in a great location, but it's worth comparing prices with nearby mid-range hotels.

Location

Right off Gran Via, an iconic avenue running through the heart of Madrid

Mesonero Romanos is a narrow street off Gran Via, a historic avenue lined by 19th and early 20th-century architecture, stores, great dining, and nightlife. It runs right through the heart of Madrid, so expect crowds and traffic both day and night. The subway, bus, and train are nearby, but most attractions are within easy walking distance.Gran Via and Sol are part of grand old Madrid. Most tourist sights are in or around this area and can be easily reached on foot. Puerta del Sol, Plaza Mayor, the Royal Palace, Cibeles and its gorgeous Palacio de Comunicaciones, Puerta de Alcala, and even the Retiro park are less than 20 minutes from the hotel. The Huertas area, right by Sol, is a nightlife hotspot, and Carretas, Preciados, and Carmen streets are major shopping destinations, as is Gran Via proper, with dozens of international and domestic chains, such as Zara, Desigual, Women’s Secret, and H&M.- 20-minute drive to Madrid-Barajas Airport
