Bottom Line

Apartamentos Bellamar is a simple, no-frills apartment complex positioned overlooking the seafront at the quieter southern end of Port de Pollensa. The beach is just across the road, but there's not much in the immediate area, and the resort center is a 15-minute walk away. All but three of the 27 one-bedroom apartments have sea views, and they're suitably up-to-date with free Wi-Fi and modern kitchenettes. Except for the swimming pool and small gardens, there's little else to the property, with no bar, restaurant, or fitness facilities. It's a perfectly adequate option for a basic, self-catering experience with lovely sea views -- the Hobby Club Apartments just down the road, however, have a larger pool and more polished finish.

Apartamentos Bellamar

Scene

Basic, independently owned apartment complex with modern makeover

Vacation complexes don't come much simpler than Apartamentos Bellamar, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. The entrance is to the rear of this single, three-story apartment block, accessible via the beachfront promenade or gravel road in the back. Reception is small, bright, and functional, with little beyond a vending machine, internet corner, check-in desk, and usual array of colorful tourist brochures. Built at the end of the '80s, this family-run property feels modern enough, spruced up with a total renovation in 2012, though on our 2017 visit we spotted some of the whitewashed facade showing signs of age. Narrow tiled hallways are bright and well-maintained, and lined with runners to cut down on noise from passing guests. An elevator means guests can avoid any steps to their apartment. The property is surrounded by a tidy lawn, and to one side a pool terrace with views over a hedge to the beach. It's mostly families staying here in summer, the majority from the UK with the rest made up of German-speaking guests.

Location

Overlooking beachfront promenade at quieter end of Port de Pollensa resort

The Apartamentos Bellamar is located toward the quieter south end of Majorca's popular resort town of Port de Pollensa, in the northeast part of the island. Set on the seafront road that stretches along much of the resort town, the hotel is just across the street from a wide strip of sandy beach and the Bay of Pollensa's clear waters. While there are a couple restaurants and a supermarket within a short stroll, the resort center's marina, pine-shaded promenade, and most of the town's dining and low-key nightlife is a 15-minute walk away. Around a 20-minute drive away is the unspoiled beach of Formentor, and stunning views from the headland beyond. Palma -- with its beautiful old town -- can be reached in just under an hour by car, as can Palma de Mallorca Airport.

Rooms

Modern apartments with kitchenettes and free Wi-Fi, most with sea-view balconies

The hotel's 27 apartments are more or less identical, with separate bedrooms, living areas, and balconies or terraces. All but three can claim at least some kind of sea view, with higher levels affording better panoramas along the coast. Ground-level units have terraces that open directly on to the pool area, so they're not recommended for families with young children. All updated in 2012, decor is simple and contemporary, with IKEA-style furniture, natural wood-effect floors, and beach-scape wall art.

Kitchenettes are tucked away behind sliding doors (in all but three) and come with microwaves, fridges, cooktops, and kettles -- frosted windows into the hallways provide some natural light. Lounges area have sofa beds (to sleep up to four guests) and 32-inch flat-screen TVs with just a couple of English-speaking channels. Air-conditioning units are remote controlled and key-style safes are available for a fee. Wi-Fi is free of charge, though the signal can vary between apartments. Bathrooms are clean and functional, with mosaic-tile walk-in showers with removable showerheads, wall-mounted hairdryers, and basic toiletries.

Features

Little beyond swimming pool with kids' section and sunbeds

Facilities are certainly minimal at the Apartmentos Bellmar. What is does have is a pleasant enough swimming pool with separate kids' section that's surrounded by modern loungers and a couple of Tiki-style umbrellas. There's a computer workstation in the lobby, a ping-pong table, and bikes are available to rent. Airport transportation can be arranged for a fee through reception. There's no on-site bar, restaurant, or fitness facilities. Free parking is available, though very limited, and Wi-Fi is free throughout.
