The Hotel Can Cera provides peace, privacy, and luxury, in a unique 700-year-old setting. Between the hotel's beautifully preserved traditional Mallorcan patio, its spa with a hot tub, library, and the on-site Gastro Pub that serves up quality Spanish tapas, there is just as much to do inside the Can Cera, as there is in the historic center of Palma where it is located. Rooms are stately and private. Two-poster beds look elegant and bathrooms are spacious. The only main drawback is that the hotel is about a 15-minute walk from the beach and doesn't offer ocean views. It has a small sun terrace with loungers, but could use a dipping pool. For equally refined service with blue views and easy beach access, the Can Cera's sister hotel, the Hotel Calatrava, is worth looking into.
Scene
Mallorcan majesty from another era
The Can Cera Hotel is housed in a building that was once the luxury residence of a politician. Despite having been restored many times over the years, it preserves much of its original majesty, from an imposing patio covered with elaborate stone archways, to the marble staircase that leads from the ground floor to the lobby. Its different lounge areas -- each uniquely decorated with their own color scheme and style -- are full of art books, intricate light fixtures, and preserved period furniture. The woodwork in these rooms alone is worth touring the property for. Expect a cultured crowd that values privacy, personalized service, and attention to historical and artistic details.
Location
In the shadows of Palma's famed La Seu Cathedral
Located on a small winding pedestrian side street in the very heart of Mallorca's historic downtown, the Can Cera Hotel is optimally located to see the best of the city on foot. A three-minute walk from the Arab Baths, a six-minute walk from La Seu Cathedral, and an eight-minute walk from the exclusive Passeig des Born shopping area, the Can Cera Hotel also has the convenience of being just under 15-minutes from the airport by taxi. Expect a 15-minute walk to the nearest beach. Parking is available near the hotel.
Rooms
Stately, spacious, and decorated with period flourishes
The rooms at this boutique property are all unquestionably stately. In the Junior Suite, a two-poster wooden headboard provides a striking focal point over the bed, while an oversized wooden framed mirror and paintings of Spanish aristocracy line the walls. A small nook is strategically set with a beautiful wooden writing desk, made all the more inviting by the delicate lamp and leafy green plant on either side of it. The bathroom's walk-in shower and separate tub are both very spacious, but decor-wise, unremarkable. In place of a terrace, the room has a glass gallery with beautiful white French doors, live plants, and Roman blinds for added privacy. Wi-Fi and a mini-fridge stocked with glass bottles of water, are free. Past guests have complained about exterior noises from front facing rooms.
Features
Tapas, spa, and free Wi-Fi
What makes this hotel stand apart most from others in its category is the feeling created by its decor. The different salon areas especially, with their unique color schemes, old leather-bound tomes, exquisitely preserved period furniture and imposing chandeliers generate a sense of grandeur that is still somehow very warm and welcoming. Then there's the beautiful outdoor patio that lightens up the mood of the entire space, imbuing the hotel with an airy Mediterranean feel. Tapas and wine are served at the Gastro Bar, and there's a charge for breakfast. The spa is outfitted with a Finnish sauna and a small whirlpool. There's also a small sun terrace with loungers, and a very elegant meeting room with black and white tile floors. Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel.
