Cas Comte Suites & Spa – Adults Only

It's clear upon first glance of Cas Comte Petit Hotel that it's something rather special. Arrivals pass directly into a secluded cobblestone courtyard surrounded by a charming stone building with shuttered windows, elegant stone arches, and an elevated balustrade terrace. An understated lobby's low beamed ceilings, herringbone terra-cotta floors, and wood burning fireplace set the tone for the distinguished-yet-informal atmosphere at this beautiful 18th-century country house. It reopened in 2013 after three years of restoration that preserved most of the building's original features, with a focus on using materials sourced from around the island. An adults-only (18-plus) policy also contributes to the relaxed and peaceful vibe, and at just 14 guest rooms the property also has an intimate boutique hotel feel. Clientele are a mix of British, German, and Spanish tourists, more interested in experiencing the authentic center of the island than the resort-lined coasts.

The hotel is attached to a church in the historic center of the small, rural town of Lloseta, halfway along the island's majestic Tramuntana Sierra. This sleepy, agricultural town is one of the less touristy destinations on the island, though still features some excellent dining options that including a Michelin-starred restaurant. Its north-of-center location makes it a great base for exploring the island, equidistant from the capital of Palma and the huge, sweeping bays and beaches of Pollensa and Alcudia (both less than 40 minutes by car). The more industrial town of Inca is also just a 10-minute drive and offers some of Mallorca's best shopping. Driving to Palma de Mallorca Airport takes about 30 minutes. With no public transportation and little within walking distance, renting a car is recommended. 

The hotel's 14 guest rooms and suites continue the look and feel of the rest of the property. Exposed stone walls, terra-cotta tile floors, and high, wood-beamed ceilings create the backdrop for tastefully modern touches and simple, elegant furniture. Some rooms have four poster beds and extend to small furnished or Juliet balconies overlooking the town square or central patio; choice suites open to private terraces. While most rooms have a standard layout, a couple of suites are spread out over several floors. 

In-room amenities are suitably upscale, with flat-screen TVs, quality coffeemakers, and minibars with a free welcome bottle of Cava. Both wired and wireless internet is also free of charge, with a good signal. Bathrooms are all spacious, with large hydro-massage tubs with handheld showerheads and separate walk-in showers, heated towel racks, and wall-mounted hairdryers; upmarket toiletries, bathrobes, and slippers round out the high-end package. 

The hotel's underground deluxe spa is on the small side, but it's masterfully integrated into the original stone building. Offerings include free use of a large whirlpool tub, thermal loungers, sauna and steam rooms, and multiple-jet showers. A range of treatments and massages are also available. Additionally, a small infinity-edge pool can be found on the hotel's rooftop terrace, along with loungers, umbrellas, and scenic views; the water is unheated, so can be a little too cold on some days.

Although there's no full restaurant on-site, a breakfast buffet is served in a small and sunny dining room that opens to a lovely terrace. Breakfast is always included in the rate, and the spread features continental items such as cereals, breads, pastries, yogurt, cold cuts, and fresh fruit, plus a selection of cooked eggs, bacon, and freshly squeezed juices. Afternoon tea, coffee, and cake is also served. Half-board rates include dinner at a Mediterranean-inspired restaurant a few steps away, which is run by the hotel. Wi-Fi is free throughout the property.
