Bottom Line

The 46-room Citric Hotel is a budget property set on the west side of Port de Soller's picturesque bay, within walking distance of its bars, restaurants, and long sandy beach. While some rooms were renovated in 2014 and are bright and modern, most feel a little dated, with old-fashioned bathrooms and no air-conditioning. Many rooms feature balconies with lovely sea views, while a spacious terrace at the front of the hotel overlooks the bay. A simple restaurant serves breakfast and dinner (not included), and free, reliable Wi-Fi is available throughout the property. Although a little rough around the edges, the hotel has a certain charm and is reasonably priced for the location. Hotel Eden Nord, which includes a small pool, is another value option in the area.

Citric Hotel Soller

Scene

Budget shorefront hotel with some charm but a bit dated

Despite a natural stone facade and balustrade balconies, the Citric Hotel is unlikely to impress at first sight. Once inside, however, guests will find a bright and airy lobby with wicker chairs, vintage clocks, and plenty of books and magazines, which gives it a welcoming and homey ambience. Parts of the hotel, including this reception area, underwent renovations in 2014, although much of the property shows its '70s origins and could use a refresh. Off the lobby is the restaurant and bar, while across the road is a waterfront terrace with seating, sunbeds, and picturesque views over the bay. Clientele is mostly budget-conscious couples.

Location

Overlooking rocky beach and Port de Soller's picturesque bay

The property is located on the west bank of Port de Soller's picturesque bay -- on Majorca's north coast -- overlooking a rocky beach with golden sand and scenic views across its harbor. There are plenty of bars and restaurants lining the beachfront promenade and just around the corner from the hotel is the start of hiking and biking routes around the nearby mountains. About a five-minute walk from the hotel, guests can hop on a 1913 tram to quaint Soller town, which takes about 15 minutes. A tourist train then connects to Palma in less than an hour. Palma de Mallorca Airport is a 30- to 40-minute drive.

Rooms

Minimally furnished rooms, some with lovely sea views

The Citric Hotel Soller's 46 rooms are spread over four floors, only one of which was renovated in 2015. The updated rooms are fresh and modern, with a simple white-and-gray color scheme, contemporary furniture, and tile floors. Their white-tile bathrooms have vessel sinks, shower/tub combos, and mounted hairdryers. The other rooms were redecorated in 2012 but look dated due to old-fashioned furniture and some signs of wear and tear. Rooms are not air-conditioned, although they have ceiling fans and standing fans are available on request. Theses rooms have beige-tile bathrooms with shower/tub combos and pedestal sinks. Only upgraded rooms have flat-screen TVs. Fast, reliable, and free Wi-Fi is available throughout. Some rooms open to balconies with lovely sea views, while rooms at the back look out on the mountains and over shrubs.
